Description:

Cytokinetics is a late-stage, specialty cardiovascular biopharmaceutical company focused on discovering, developing and commercializing first-in-class muscle activators and next-in-class muscle inhibitors as potential treatments for debilitating diseases in which cardiac muscle performance is compromised. As a leader in muscle biology and the mechanics of muscle performance, the company is developing small molecule drug candidates specifically engineered to impact myocardial muscle function and contractility.
We are currently seeking a Research Scientist for our Medicinal Chemistry department.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • D. in Chemistry required (BS/MS with generally 10+ years’ experience and demonstrated independent scientific creativity and contribution)
  • 0-5 years of relevant experience in synthetic organic/medicinal chemistry, preferably in lead optimization (familiarity with molecular and cellular biological techniques, especially screening techniques is a plus)
  • Proven track record of scientific achievement, problem solving, and impactful peer reviewed publications.
  • Demonstrated expertise in organic synthesis, chromatographic purification methods, and compound characterization using modern analytical techniques (NMR, MS, HPLC, etc.)
  • Organized, detail-oriented, excellent record-keeping skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and perform well in a team environment
Our employees come from different backgrounds, and we celebrate those differences. We are looking for the best candidates for our open roles, but do not expect applicants to meet every qualification in order to be considered. If you are excited about what you could accomplish at Cytokinetics and believe you can add value to our team, we would love to hear from you.
Please review our General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) policy PRIOR to applying.
Our passion is anchored in robust scientific thinking, grounded in integrity and critical thinking. We keep the patient front and center in all we do – all actions and decisions are in service of the patient and their caregivers. We champion integrity, ethics, doing the right thing, and being our best selves.

Responsibilities:

  • Rapid synthesis of drug candidates to enable the advancement of optimization programs toward clinical development
  • Independently perform design and synthesis of next generation compounds by application of medicinal chemistry knowledge to the analysis of potency, and off-target selectivity data
  • Provide support, guidance, and mentorship for experiment design, data analysis, and result communication back to the team
  • Communication of research progress and data interpretation during project meetings
  • Maintain detail experimental records
