SCIENTIST PROTEOMICS/CHEMICAL BIOLOGY (ALL GENDERS)

Bayer is seeking a highly creative and motivated Proteomics/Chemical Biology scientist (m/f/d) to join the Chemical Biology,
Imaging & Omics cluster (CBIO) within Drug Discovery Sciences (DDS) in Germany. In this role at CBIO, you will collaborate with
an interdisciplinary team of scientists within the R&D organization, contributing to the development and discovery of innovative
methods that enhance target discovery and early-stage drug development. This position is part of Bayer’s Life Science
Collaboration program, which fosters cutting-edge research across the global Bayer organization, with a particular emphasis on
cross-divisional collaboration. In this role, you will establish a high throughput platform to perform proximity based interactome
analysis using novel enzymes engineered in-house, working closely with colleagues from Crop Science and Pharma in both Europe
and the US.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • You have a PhD in proteomics/mass spectrometry, chemical biology, molecular/cellular biology, chemistry, or a related discipline
  • You have excellent knowledge and practical experience in proteomics sample preparation, LC/MS-based method development, and analyzing large-scale quantitative proteomics datasets
  • You have a strong background in chemical and cellular biology, cultivation and engineering of mammalian cell lines, assay and method development
  • You have comprehensive understanding and experience in proximity labeling-based interactomics, including experimental design, analysis, and data interpretation
  • You have experience with automated sample preparation and liquid handling robots (advantageous)
  • You have knowledge in protein engineering (advantageous)
  • You have strong interpersonal skills with a proven record of independent problem-solving and working efficiently in a cross-functional team to achieve joint goals.
  • You have excellent proficiency in English, both spoken and written.

Responsibilities:

  • You establish a fully automated enrichment platform for protein interactome studies
  • You design, implement, and optimize experimental workflows for proximity labeling experiments
  • You develop and refine fusion constructs and generate stable cell lines
  • You collaborate with the protein engineering team to create novel proximity labeling enzymes
  • You perform proteomics/mass spectrometry experiments, from sample preparation to data acquisition
  • You closely collaborate with data scientists and computational biologists to ensure quantitative analysis of generated data and identify novel protein-protein interactions
  • You support ongoing drug discovery projects at various stages, including target discovery, target deconvolution, and lead characterization activities with this platform
  • You join a highly motivated, international, and interdisciplinary research team, closely interacting with your colleagues from the entire R&D organization of Bayer Pharma, as well as several contract research organizations
