The Centre for Population Health Sciences at the Usher Institute within The University of Edinburgh is looking for a SCREDS Clinical Lecturer in General Practice & Primary Care.

THE OPPORTUNITY:

Suitable applicants must already hold a national training number (NTN) in General Practice at the time of applying, and will be due to enter General Practice ST3 in August 2025. The successful candidate will be appointed at the level of Specialist/Specialty Registrar and will be in the Scottish Training Programme in General Practice.
Clinical training is an essential component of the Lectureship in order to ensure the appointee can successfully complete his/her CCST. Training will be offered in general practice and primary care.
Training will also be offered in general practice and primary care and health services research methods. Other specialist training opportunities are available within the Institute including excluding exposure to public health.
The successful applicant will complete their training splitting their final year (ST3) over two years, working part time (50%) in clinical training in a suitable practice, and part time (50%) in academic training in the University Department.
During the term of the post, the successful candidate is expected to achieve the competencies required to achieve their CCST in general practice and to gain research competencies, and undertake publishable research that will make them well placed to commence a higher degree (PhD or MD) by obtaining an externally funded studentship by the end of the term of appointment.
Ideally you will have research experience (although not essential), you will have the capacity for innovative and original thinking, have ability to exercise a high degree of personal initiative in organising own work, and work to tight deadlines calmly and efficiently. This post is funded for two years, and is an excellent opportunity for you to develop an academic strand to your career. Applications will be subject to successful negotiation with the clinical training practice to which the trainee is due to be attached in 2025.
We strongly encourage potential applicants to contact us to discuss the post informally before application. Please do contact Professor David Weller (David.Weller@ed.ac.uk) or Professor Bruce Guthrie (Bruce.Guthrie@ed.ac.uk)

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • Starting GPST3 in August 2025
  • Capacity for innovative and original thinking, & motivation to deliver high-quality research
  • Capacity to be a future clinical academic leader
  • Ability to work well in multidisciplinary teams
  • Ideally, some experience of research and of publication/presentation of research

Please note due to funding this post will be appointed at Grade ACN2, within a range of £48,288 - £54,528 per annum.
