JOIN OUR TEAM AS A MEDICAL SCRIBE AT UPMC HILLMAN CANCER CENTER!

Location: Washington outpatient center (travel to our Waynesburg office 1 day/month)
Schedule: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm

Responsibilities:

  • Be a Vital Team Member: Work closely with a medical oncology physician to ensure accurate and efficient patient care.
  • Engage in Meaningful Work: Record doctor-patient conversations and assist with essential documentation.
  • Variety in Your Day: Perform clerical tasks like printing lab reports and charting appointments, and operate electronic medical records.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensures patient understands all instructions.
  • Correctly summarizes and documents what the physician says during an examination, including but not limited to: proper charting of the examination, documenting additions to the chief complaint, assessment and recommendations for treatment (including justification of decisions reached when appropriate).
  • Learns the personality and preferences of each physician, recognizing differences and abiding by them when working with that particular physician.
  • Maintains an awareness of the patients verbal and non-verbal communication when the physician is providing instructions as it may necessitate the writer repeating information, providing written instructions, and/or patient education materials for the patient to review at home.
  • Accurately documents chart errors according to the following format: One line is to be drawn through the mistake. The initials of the person making the error are to be written. The corrected information can then be documented.
  • Maintains patient flow, by ensuring a minimum of two patient rooms are always occupied.
  • Remains as close to the physician as possible and limits time away from the physician and the patient.
  • High school diploma.
  • Two years experience in a medical office.
  • Fluency in English, bilingual preferred.
  • Basic understanding of algebraic principles.
  • Experience maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Strong professional interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication. Team-orientation.
  • Management of multiple projects simultaneously & strong organization with attention to detail.
  • Legible handwriting & computer literacy.
