As a seasonal member of our Research, Development and Innovation team, you will learn how new crop varieties are developed in Western Canada and gain experience in agronomy and crop breeding as you assist with the field evaluation of experimental varieties and breeding materials. You will also gain practical experience working with farm machinery and driving a truck and trailer. Located in Edmonton, AB and reporting to the local Agronomist and research technicians, you will be involved with the establishment, maintenance and harvest of canola, wheat and barley research plots.
Responsibilities:
- Field seed bed preparations and flagging of sites.
- Seed cleaning, seed treatment and set-up of seeding envelopes.
- Establish and maintain small plot field trials.
- Set up and operate field equipment.
- Operate small plot field equipment such as tractors, seeders, sprayers, combines, swathers, and tillage tools.
- Drive a truck and trailer to move equipment between sites.
- Apply in-crop herbicides and fungicides.
- Take accurate and precise agronomic notes.
- Conduct equipment calibration and maintenance.
- Assist technicians, agronomists and plant breeders with other duties as required.
- Some travel and out of town work may be required.
