Seasonal Port Control Officer
Location: Ramsgate
Type: Temporary - until September
Hourly Rate: £11.44 - raising to £12.21 in April
Hours: 4 days on/4 off - 12-hour shifts

REQUIREMENTS:

• Knowledge of port operations & maritime safety regulations.
• Experience in giving great customer service.
• Experience in VTS or Port Control preferred.
• Proficiency in VHF, radar, and AIS systems.
• Strong decision-making and communication skills.
• Ability to work shifts, including nights/weekends.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

We are currently looking for a Port Control Officer to work at The Port of Ramsgate to ensure safe navigation, environmental protection, and smooth vessel operations within the port. You will deliver a Local Port Service (LPS) and enforce compliance with maritime regulations.
There will be occasions that you must be prepared to work a night shift, as and when required, you will receive a salary uplift of 19% when applicable.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Monitor and regulate vessel movements within Harbour Limits.
• Allocate berths for scheduled/unscheduled arrivals.
• Maintain a responsible port presence outside office hours.
• Oversee vessel traffic and ensure safety.
• Act as Harbour Master’s representative when required.
• Maintain key equipment (radars, VHF, AIS, etc.).
• Supervise lock gate operations.
• Provide excellent customer service.
• Report incidents and maintain records.
• Distribute weather, tidal, and navigational warnings.
