  • EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION – Master’s Degree. Type C Louisiana Teaching Certificate. Certification as a school counselor. Additional criteria as established by the School Board.
  • EXPERIENCE – Three years of successful school experience.

  • Develops a comprehensive program of vocational guidance based on current philosophies and needs of children.
  • Continues the comprehensive programs of vocational guidance based on the guidelines of the Career Options Law.
  • Announces job opportunities on behalf of prospective employees if contacted.
  • Holds conferences with parents, teachers, administrators and/or community agencies.
  • Maintains an up-to-date file of community referral agencies.
  • Plans and presents orientation programs which are designed to inform students about available guidance services.
  • Re-evaluates and updates guidance services on an ongoing basis.
  • Plans and conducts program evaluations for the counseling services.
  • Coordinates all testing.
  • Participates in 504 and IEP meetings for students with special needs as needed.
  • Provides courteous and prompt service to all internal and external customers including students, parents, co-workers, etc. Schedules and/or attends conferences with parents. Prioritizes and addresses requests and assignments in a professional manner to develop cooperative relationships and to ensure that student and employee records confidentiality is assured.
  • Identifies opportunities and recommends methods to improve service, work processes and financial performance, e.g. expense management. Assists in the implementation of quality improvement initiatives.
  • Assists co-workers in the completion of tasks and assignments to ensure continuity of service. Orients new co-workers and actively supports teamwork through the school system

II. SUMMARY OF POSITION’S PURPOSE

Develops and implements a guidance program which assists the students in making effective adjustments to the world in which they live.

IV. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides individual counseling services.
  • Provides group counseling.
  • Arranges for yearly class scheduling, schedule verification and schedule changes, as necessary.
  • Provides the following types of information as necessary:
    a. Curriculum offerings
    b. Number of credits earned and/or those necessary for graduation
    c. Graduation requirements
    d. Scholarship information
    e. Vocational programs, technical schools, colleges and universities

- Attend meetings generally associated with the instructions of students

- Attend PGP, PIP, Evaluation, Observation, IAP, and student discipline meetings/hearingsAttend school board/committee meetings, upon request

Extracurricular Activities

- Attend/work concessions/gates of no more than 15 athletic events per school year as requested by the principal or designee
- Attend all meetings and functions of those activities, clubs, or groups of which the employee is a sponsor
