- EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION – Master’s Degree. Type C Louisiana Teaching Certificate. Certification as a school counselor. Additional criteria as established by the School Board.
- EXPERIENCE – Three years of successful school experience.

- Develops a comprehensive program of vocational guidance based on current philosophies and needs of children.
- Continues the comprehensive programs of vocational guidance based on the guidelines of the Career Options Law.
- Announces job opportunities on behalf of prospective employees if contacted.
- Holds conferences with parents, teachers, administrators and/or community agencies.
- Maintains an up-to-date file of community referral agencies.
- Plans and presents orientation programs which are designed to inform students about available guidance services.
- Re-evaluates and updates guidance services on an ongoing basis.
- Plans and conducts program evaluations for the counseling services.
- Coordinates all testing.
- Participates in 504 and IEP meetings for students with special needs as needed.
- Provides courteous and prompt service to all internal and external customers including students, parents, co-workers, etc. Schedules and/or attends conferences with parents. Prioritizes and addresses requests and assignments in a professional manner to develop cooperative relationships and to ensure that student and employee records confidentiality is assured.
- Identifies opportunities and recommends methods to improve service, work processes and financial performance, e.g. expense management. Assists in the implementation of quality improvement initiatives.
- Assists co-workers in the completion of tasks and assignments to ensure continuity of service. Orients new co-workers and actively supports teamwork through the school system

II. SUMMARY OF POSITION’S PURPOSE
Develops and implements a guidance program which assists the students in making effective adjustments to the world in which they live.
IV. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides individual counseling services.
- Provides group counseling.
- Arranges for yearly class scheduling, schedule verification and schedule changes, as necessary.
- Provides the following types of information as necessary:
a. Curriculum offerings
b. Number of credits earned and/or those necessary for graduation
c. Graduation requirements
d. Scholarship information
e. Vocational programs, technical schools, colleges and universities
