About the role
Balfour Beatty are looking for Secondary Lining Section Engineer to join our Major Projects Team, based at Hinkley Point, Bridgwater.
An Amazing opportunity to work on a large-scale project!
At Hinkley Point Balfour Beatty are delivering one of the most complex marine engineering projects currently taking place in the world to support the construction of the first new nuclear power station built in the UK in a generation.
The project will see the construction of three tunnels under the seabed that will supply the two reactors at Hinkley Point C with cooling water and then discharge it back into the Bristol Channel.
Our experts will use state-of-the-art technology to excavate a total of nine kilometres of tunnel, which will be lined with 38,000 concrete segments forming 6000 lining rings. The tunnels will be connected to the seabed by vertical shafts and capped with large intake and outfall heads, each weighing close to 5000 tonnes, that allow sea water to pass into the tunnels. Both the concrete segments and the heads are under manufactured to exacting specifications at a purpose-built state-of-the-art facility at Balfour Beatty’s site in Avonmouth, Bristol.
What you’ll be doing
As a Secondary Lining Engineer, you will assist the Tunnel Shift Managers in the SCL/TBM/Secondary Lining tunnel construction shift teams
Some key responsibilities will be:
- Responsible for the shift secondary lining works
- Control of setting out works, providing guidance to site engineers
- Ensuring ITP (Inspection and Test Plan) and Quality inspections are successfully implemented at every step of the works
- Producing RAMS (Risk Assessments and Method Statements) and ITP’s (Inspection and Test Plans) and ensuring these are implemented during site works
- Submitting NCR’s (Non-Conformance Reports) and RFI’s (Requests For Information)
- Carrying out H&S (Health and Safety) inspections
- Ensuring there is an adequate provision of materials required to carry out works
Who we’re looking for
We are looking for:
- HNC/ HND/ BEng/ MEng in Civil Engineering
- Hold a valid CSCS card
- Must hold a UK driving Licence
- 5 year’s experience (preferable) in Secondary Lining works
- Knowledge in setting out reinforced structures (preferably tunnels)
- Ability to manage shift/site engineers and operatives
- Experience of maintaining good relations with designer and client
- Knowledge of reinforcement and formwork drawings
- Experience carrying out Quality inspections
- Good understanding of spoken/written English
- Thorough knowledge of construction procedures and working methods
