Description:

Khalsa Secondary School is seeking candidates for two English and Social Studies (Humanities) positions.
Khalsa Secondary School is a faith based Sikh school located on 10589 124 Street in Surrey, BC. Academic teachers do not have to be observers of the faith. Teachers from all diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply! We have just completed our first year of MYP candidacy and are looking to seek our IB authorization in the fall of 2024. We are also an AP Level 2 school. We are a growing school with a lot of opportunities! Our teachers are supported, have their own classroom and have a prep in each semester.
Currently, we have two Humanities openings for the new 2024-2025 school year starting August 29, 2024. We recognize North American teaching experience. Please indicate in your resume and cover letter which position number you would like to be considered for.

Position 1: Senior English and Social Studies position
Start Date: August 29, 2024
Psychology 11 - 2 blocks
Creative Writing 10 - 2 blocks
English First Peoples Literary Studies - 1 block
Social Justice 12 - 2 blocks
Genocide Studies 12 - 1 block
Position 2: Humanities 8 / 9 - Junior English / Social Studies position
Start Date: August 29, 2024
Year long Humanities 8 - 2 blocks
Year long Humanities 9 - 2 blocks

Salary: Starting salary of $61,500/year (over 10 months)

  • Only offered to CoQ teachers or teachers who have a completed application with

the Teacher Certification Branch (BC) for a CoQ
**Teaching experience in Canada is recognized for a possible higher starting
salary for CoQ teachers

Duties:

  • Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that adhere to the curriculum
  • Utilize a variety of teaching methods to ensure all students understand the material
  • Create a positive and inclusive learning environment
  • Assess student progress and provide feedback
  • Collaborate with colleagues to enhance the overall learning experience
  • Participate in parent-teacher meetings and school events

Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field
  • BC teaching certification
  • Proven experience teaching Social Studies/English or related subjects (preferrable)
  • Strong organizational skills to manage lesson plans and grading effectively
  • Excellent communication skills to engage with students, parents, and colleagues
  • Ability to tailor teaching methods for diverse learning styles

Skills:

  • Proficient in proofreading educational materials
  • Classroom management expertise
  • Effective communication and writing skills
  • Experience in tutoring or special education is a plus
  • Strong organizational abilities to handle multiple tasks efficiently
