Description:

The Role
Our ideal candidate will have a commitment to personal development and the ability to work in a conscientious and flexible manner whilst ensuring that the department’s high standards are maintained. Experience of working within a decontamination facility is essential.
The post holder will be required to operationally manage the decontamination facilities within UCLH Foundation Trust on a day-to-day basis and provide line management and support for all staff within the directorate inclusive of co-ordinating appraisals; implementation and management of Sickness Absence policy and other relevant Trust policies relating to the management of staff resources.
The appointee will deputise for the General Manager as required and take charge of departmental issues in his/her absence. To assist in developing and implementing changes in operational practices and departmental policies.
You will be required to provide professional and technical advice to colleagues both internal and external to the service. To represent the department at internal/external meetings with groups including suppliers, engineers, potential and existing customers.
The post holder will assist in organising and co-ordinating staff development and training and participate in staff selection and recruitment.
The appointee will take the lead with external audits and provide assurances and actions around any non-conformances that arise from those audits.
The successful candidate will be required to be an investigating officer for potential disciplinary investigations and performance management issues and to present the management case in internal disciplinary matters.
You will be required to lead on ad-hoc projects as and when directed. To assist with the monitoring and management of risk within the service and take appropriate action to mitigate.

The Sterilisation and Disinfection Unit (SDU) at UCH was opened in October 2006 and underwent a full refurbishment in 2022. The unit has certification to ISO 13485 and is MDR accredited. The unit is based in University College Hospital and provides a centralised decontamination service to UCLH Foundation Trust. Allied with this is the centralised Endoscopy Decontamination Unit (EDU) for flexible endoscopes, a satellite Sterile Services Department serving our dental hospital and a Neonatal Decontamination Unit.
