JOB SUMMARY/BASIC FUNCTION
Millersville University of Pennsylvania is recruiting for a Security Officer 1 – Intermittent.
The position of Security Officer for Millersville University is responsible for the overall safety and security of personnel, students, visitors, and facilities. These responsibilities may further include the providing of security for residence halls from fire, theft, illegal entry, and other violations of State and campus regulations. The incumbent in this position is responsible for keeping a working knowledge of the criminal justice system, law enforcement procedures, report writing, fire safety, and campus regulations. May further be required to apprehend and detain suspects when needed.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Valid PA driver’s license
- Excellent oral, written, interpersonal communication skills.
- CPR/First Aid/AED certification within one-year probationary period.
- Must demonstrate ability to work with the public under stressful and emergency situations.
- May be required to take additional training upon the request of supervisor and depending upon job assignment.
- Evidence of a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Successful interview.
- Successful completion of employment physical.
- Successful completion of three background checks.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience working with diverse groups at social, cultural, and athletic events.
- Evidence working with college-age population.
- Parking and crowd control experience.
Responsibilities:
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assigned duties of the officer may vary according to the shift, day of the week, and placement in the academic year.
- Provides:
- security coverage and crowd control at special events or as needed.
- visitors with campus information.
- transportation to medical facilities as needed and appropriate.
- emergency first aid, CPR if need arises.
- security escorts to members of the campus community during designated time periods upon request.
- preventive maintenance to assigned vehicles.
- Assists motorists with directions, lockouts, and battery jumps.
- Assists in community service or crime prevention education programs.
- Directs vehicular and pedestrian traffic to assure compliance with the laws of the Commonwealth and provide for safety of the general campus community.
- Places and retrieves directional equipment and vehicle booting devices.
- Issue’s parking warnings and tickets as directed by supervisor.
- May be required to:
- assist in searches of persons or facilities.
- testify in court as appropriate.
- monitor communications, fire and intrusion alarm systems and dispatch appropriate personnel when necessary.
- Written documentation of all activities must be prepared.
- Completes appropriate departmental forms.
- Regular training in the use of computers, security software, telecommunications equipment, and alarm monitoring shall be required.
- Monitor Close Circuit camera systems.
- Monitor doors access systems.
- Monitor Fire and intuition alarms.
- Ensure that everyone in the building is displaying identification.
- Work/monitor special events.
- Make physical checks of the inside and outside of the building.
- Enforce polices specific to the building or event, such as no smoking.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
- Ability to sit for long lengths of time.
- Extensive writing and verbal communications skills.
- Basic and advanced math skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide, fractions, percentages, formulas, equations).
- Understanding of written directions.
- Must be able to lift/carry/pull up to 50 lbs. and push over 50 lbs. daily with and without assistance.
- Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and mouse.
