POSITION OVERVIEW
The Security Officer is responsible for proactively identifying and communicating threats wherever practicable, to mitigate risks to the integrity of the company, its personnel, processes, and other assets. The successful candidate must be able to work as part of a team, as well as independently, and should be a critical thinker with a high degree of professionalism and integrity.
As a member of the Security Team, the Security Officer will report to the Team Leader, Security, and work two (2) weeks on, two (2) weeks off rotation at the Ekati mine site.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma/GED;
- Experience using standard technology systems for security: video surveillance, access control, alarm monitoring, incident reporting, and related database systems;
- Northwest Territory Security Officer Certification is considered an asset;
- 3+ years’ experience and/or training or an equivalent combination of education and experience in associated fields (security, crime prevention, emergency planning).

Responsibilities:
- Participating in all safety and security related programs as well as ensuring all concerns are reported to supervisory personnel;
- Championing the protection of company assets (including people, physical property, financial resources, and information) within the incumbent’s span of control to mitigate risks of loss, misuse, and abuse;
- Providing immediate response to security and emergency situations;Conduct video surveillance, alarm monitoring, and access control functions for high-risk areas;
- Identify, investigate, and report all breaches of approved policy/procedures;
- Apply various company policies as they relate to Drugs, Alcohol, Theft of property, etc.;
- Maintain up to date and accurate electronic records, filing, and database systems;
- Assist in the evaluation of current and proposed security systems/practices by assessing risks, reviewing performance, and recommending improvements;Assist in projects related to emergency response;
- Participate in internal audits and searches of personnel, property, and vehicles;
- Undertake a variety of specialized security roles as needs dictate;
- Assist in the training and development of new hires.
