Description:
THE VALUE YOU’LL BRING TO THE TEAM:
- Performs all security related tasks as assigned by Supervisor, and keeps Supervisor apprised of unusual activities and events.
- Properly utilizes and maintains all issued and operated equipment. Operates radio equipment, knows and understands radio codes, and complies with all applicable laws and department policies and procedures.
- Interacts with the public, students, faculty, staff, and other officers in a professional manner and provides assistance as needed including, but not limited to security escorts. Assists with and helps coordinate special events.
- Documents all crimes, incidents and safety-related incidents/issues per AHU policy and procedure. Exhibits good judgment during critical situations and maintains a professional and authoritative demeanor at all times. Assesses situations with consideration for age of individuals involved.
- Intercedes in physical and verbal disputes between persons, utilizing authorized verbal de-escalation techniques and skills trained by AdventHealth, to defuse potentially violent situations. Manages and addresses aggressive behavior
- Gather information/investigate issues pertaining to incidents such as thefts, accidents, etc., relating to faculty, staff and students on campus and in student housing and documenting the information. Submit gathered information to the appropriate supervisors and/or officials. Perform preventative patrol of the AHU campus and student housing complex.
- Assist the Dean of Housing in maintaining a safe and secure environment at the student housing complex. Perform functions the Dean or designee deem necessary in order to accomplish this goal of safety and security.
- Screen visitors, students, faculty, and staff seeking entry to student housing after hours. Escort visitors and residents within the policies of AHU

Responsibilities:
Under the direction and supervision of the AdventHealth University’s (AHU) Director of Security, the Security Officer II performs security services through interaction with the public, students, faculty, and staff. Provides security at specific locations, responds to security issues, provides access assistance as requested, reports suspicious circumstances and emergencies, and completes other duties as assigned. Proactivly conducts vehicle and foot patrols of the AHU campus and housing complexes to keep everyone safe and deter criminal activity. The Security Officer II develops an effective rapport with students, faculty, and staff that fosters a relationship of compliance. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all. Beyond the standard responsibilities of a security officer, the Security Officer II is responsible for assisting the Director of Security in developing and implementing policies and procedures related to safety and security; monitoring and maintaining fire (and other) equipment to ensure safety compliance; establishing evacuation protocols in the event of an emergency; and creating appropriate safety education for students, faculty, and staff.
