Description:

SECURITY OFFICER

Westtown School is seeking an experienced full-time Security Officer to work 2:00 pm - 10:00 pm Monday through Friday. School Security Officers are responsible for maintaining the safety and security of the school community, all buildings, and the surrounding campus. Security Officers provide on-campus security through regular rounds and camera surveillance. Security Officers are essential school personnel and are expected to be available during inclement weather and other school-closing situations.
Westtown School is an independent, co-educational, Quaker pre-K to 12 college preparatory day and boarding school located in suburban West Chester, PA, approximately 30 miles from Philadelphia. QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School diploma required or equivalent; some college is preferred

  • Current CPR/AED certification required

  • EMT certification is desired but not required
  • Valid Driver’s License and clean driving history
  • Prior security or related experience is preferred
  • Must be well-organized and able to prioritize work
  • Excellent observational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues
  • Able to work independently without close supervision
  • Calm under pressure and able to respond to a variety of situations

  • Required clearances, including PA Criminal Background Check, Child Abuse Certification, and FBI fingerprints.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to patrol the property and access all areas quickly

  • Sufficient vision (with correction) to read and observe at a distance

  • Able to stand and walk for extended periods of time, a golf cart can be used for campus transportation between buildings
  • Ability to do considerable walking to make rounds, as required, to conduct safety inspections
  • Sufficient stamina to work outside in bad weather conditions when required
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and monitoring surveillance equipment
  • Must be able to ascend and descend stairs
  • Requires hearing to perceive information at normal spoken word levels
  • May require climbing, standing for long periods, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting up to 25 pounds, bending, and repetitive motions.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides a safe and secure environment for students, employees, campus residents, and guests;

  • Responsible for maintaining the safety and security of all campus buildings and grounds through regular rounds, either on foot or in a motorized vehicle;

  • Monitors surveillance camera system;
  • Investigates and reports unsafe conditions or suspicious activity, as necessary;
  • Develops and maintains positive and professional relations with students, parents, faculty, staff, and visitors;
  • Responds in a timely manner to all alarms and calls for assistance;
  • Provides basic first aid and medical attention as appropriate;
  • Completes a log of daily activities and provides “pass-on” information to relief personnel;
  • Notifies police, fire department, and appropriate school officials of any situation requiring immediate or prompt attention;
  • Participates in departmental meetings and required training;
  • Other duties as assigned.
