Pay Range
$35.83 - $41.52 Hourly (655.1)

Job Description
We have several openings for Security Police Officers (SPOs) in the Protective Force Division within the Security Organization. You will be responsible for protecting the Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) security interests and property from theft, sabotage, vandalism, illegal entry, and other acts that may adversely impact national security or the health and safety of the Laboratory’s employees. Assignments shall be at either Livermore Site 200 or Site 300 during day or night shifts that operate on a 12-hour schedule with varying regularly scheduled off days and shall require overtime, weekend, and holiday work. The SPOs are represented under the Security Police Officers Association (SPOA) Collective Bargaining Agreement.
You will
Provide access control operations at fixed posts at the Laboratory’s perimeter entry/exit points.
Patrol premises by vehicle/foot to ensure doors, windows, and gates are secure and to check facilities for reportable emergencies and hazards.
Inspect/search buildings, vehicles, and persons for controlled and prohibited items using approved search techniques.
Respond to security and fire alarms, emergency incidents, make detentions and conduct preliminary investigations.
Write detailed reports describing incidents, emergencies, damage, theft, or unusual circumstances.
Protect assets, information, property, and personnel of LLNL. Maintain knowledge of and comply with applicable DOE and LLNL security procedures.
Maintain annual training requirements developed by the SO Training Group under the general guidelines of DOE orders and Federal regulations.
Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor in representing the Security Organization and the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory by complying with the prescribed uniform and equipment standards of the Protective Force Division.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of hire.
High school diploma or equivalency, and related experience in security, military or law enforcement.
Ability to successfully complete and maintain a physical fitness standard consisting of a one-half mile run in 4 minutes and 40 seconds and a prone-to-running 40-yard dash in 8.5 seconds; 20-yard 180lbs dummy drag (10 yards to and from), a minimum of 10 hand release pushups, a comprehensive medical examination, including a multi-stage cardiovascular assessment; a psychological evaluation; and a drug test.
Ability to successfully complete a basic training course designed to provide the minimum level of skills and knowledge to competently perform all tasks associated with the SPO duties and responsibilities.
Ability to attain and maintain qualifications with site-approved weapons, physical techniques, tactics, and equipment, which may be necessary either to protect the site, or to effectively engage and neutralize an adversary.
Experience communicating effectively, verbally and in writing with clarity and accuracy; to comprehend written instructions; to exhibit patience, tact, and courtesy in dealing with people from diverse backgrounds to perform effectively in stressful situations; and to interact with a large population consisting of diverse disciplines and cultural backgrounds.
Familiarity with personal computers and basic software applications such as Microsoft Word.
Ability to work under extreme outdoor weather conditions (e.g., hot/cold, wet/dry). Engage in frequent activities such as prolonged standing and sitting, running, climbing, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, crawling, twisting torso, reaching overhead, pushing, pulling, lifting and carrying 51+ pounds, other vigorous exercise, and execution of weaponless defense techniques. Capability to use both hands, arms, legs, feet, and wearing protective equipment such as: helmet, face shield, respirator, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, protective boots and body armor. Possess good peripheral, depth, and binocular vision as well as color discrimination. The ability to distinguish between speech and high-pitched sounds.
Qualifications We Desire
Current DOE certification in the Basic Security Police Officer Training (BSPOT) program; current DOE weapons qualification with a handgun.
Knowledge of the Laboratory sites and areas.
Familiarity with general physical security/force protection principles.

Site 300
Site 300 is an experimental test site operated by LLNL. Situated on 7,000 acres in rural foothills approximately six miles southwest of downtown Tracy and 15 miles southeast of Livermore, Site 300 hosts approximately 200 employees with expertise in such fields as engineering, chemistry, biology, and environmental restoration. Employees assigned to work at Site 300 may be exposed to the organism that causes San Joaquin Valley Fever (coccidioidomycosis).
Security Clearance
This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance. If you are selected, we will initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if you meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. Also, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.
Pre-Employment Drug Test
External applicant(s) selected for this position must pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test. This includes testing for use of marijuana as Federal Law applies to us as a Federal Contractor.
Wireless and Medical Devices
Per the Department of Energy (DOE), Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory must meet certain restrictions with the use and/or possession of mobile devices in Limited Areas. Depending on your job duties, you may be required to work in a Limited Area where you are not permitted to have a personal and/or laboratory mobile device in your possession. This includes, but not limited to cell phones, tablets, fitness devices, wireless headphones, and other Bluetooth/wireless enabled devices.
If you use a medical device, which pairs with a mobile device, you must still follow the rules concerning the mobile device in individual sections within Limited Areas. Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities require separate approval. Hearing aids without wireless capabilities or wireless that has been disabled are allowed in Limited Areas, Secure Space and Transit/Buffer Space within buildings.
