Hays Recruitment are proud to be working in partnership with a Chester-based SEND school that supports pupils with a dual diagnosis of ASD and non-verbal between the ages of 4 - 17, as they are looking to recruit a number of motivated and reliable teaching assistants for long-term full-time contracts. This school are looking for people to start on a full-time basis after the February half-term, but can accommodate immediate starts if required.

YOUR NEW ROLE

As a teaching assistant within this school, you will be supporting pupils with complex SEN on a 1:1 basis. You will act as your pupils’ main point of contact throughout the school day, meeting them at the school gate in the morning and walking them back to their grown-up at the end of the day. As you will be supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis, you will support them inside and outside the classroom, including during break/lunch times. You will take a pupil centred approach to learning to ensure that each pupil’s individual needs, emotional state and EHCP’s are met and to effectively manage their behaviours. As a large number of pupils within this school are non-verbal, you will effectively use PECs and Makaton to communicate as well as offer speech and language sessions.
