Description:
The Senior Accountant is responsible for overseeing and managing the accounting activities of the company, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with accounting standards, and the timely preparation of financial statements. The role involves supervising junior accounting staff, assisting with audits, and providing insights into financial performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Reporting:
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (balance sheet, income statement, cash flow statement).
- Ensure all financial reports are prepared in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) or International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
- Analyze financial data and recommend improvements to processes or financial strategies.
- General Ledger Management:
- Oversee general ledger activities, ensuring all transactions are recorded correctly.
- Perform monthly reconciliations of accounts and resolve discrepancies.
- Maintain proper documentation for all accounting transactions.
- Month-End and Year-End Close:
- Lead the month-end and year-end close processes to ensure the timely completion of financial reporting.
- Assist in the preparation and coordination of audits, working with external auditors to provide required documentation.
- Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and forecasts, providing financial insights to support business decisions.
- Monitor and track budget versus actual performance and provide recommendations for corrective actions if necessary.
- Cash Flow Management:
- Monitor cash flow and ensure adequate liquidity for day-to-day operations.
- Coordinate with other departments to forecast cash flow requirements and ensure sufficient funds are available.
- Tax Compliance:
- Assist in preparing and filing tax returns, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations.
- Work with tax advisors to address tax-related inquiries and optimize tax strategies.
- Internal Controls and Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with internal financial controls and accounting procedures.
- Recommend improvements to internal controls to mitigate financial risks.
- Team Supervision and Development:
- Supervise and mentor junior accounting staff, ensuring they meet their responsibilities and adhere to accounting standards.
- Provide guidance and training to team members to support their professional growth.
- Other Duties:
- Perform ad hoc financial analysis and reporting as requested by management.
- Stay updated on changes to accounting standards and regulations, ensuring that the company remains compliant.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA, CMA, or similar certification preferred).
- Experience: 5+ years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a senior or supervisory role.
- Skills:
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Excel).
- Strong understanding of GAAP and/or IFRS.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
