About Climate United
Climate United will use funding from the EPA under the Inflation Reduction Act to rapidly deploy low- and zero-emission products, technologies, and services to all American communities in order to (1) reduce GHG emissions and other forms of air pollutants; (2) bring direct benefits to American communities in the form of energy security, energy savings, cleaner air, and quality jobs; and (3) transform the capital markets so they can drive an equitable clean energy transition at scale. Calvert Impact, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit (“Calvert Impact”), is sole member of Climate United. The successful candidate will be employed by Calvert Impact or one of its subsidiaries.
Climate United Fund, a leading nonprofit organization, is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Senior Accountant. This role is crucial in supporting the financial health of our organization by ensuring accurate accounting practices, facilitating financial reporting, and maintaining compliance with applicable regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting principles, exceptional Excel skills, and experience with nonprofit or grant accounting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Cash Disbursements and Accounts Payable Process:
o Code invoices and initiate wire transfers.
o Process payroll, fringe benefits, and indirect reimbursements to OTOF.
o Monitor outstanding checks, recommending stop payments and reissuance, as necessary.
- Personal Expense Reimbursement and Corporate Credit Card Payment Process:
o Code and submit expense reimbursements and credit card expenses.
o Audit expense reports for compliance and review, reconcile, and gather receipts for credit card payments.
o Update GL coding and post credit card expenses to the general ledger.
- Invoicing and Cash Receipts:
o Prepare invoices for Climate United Fund and apply cash receipts in the accounting system.
- Payroll/Timekeeping Administration:
o Ensure timely submission of approved timesheets, reviewing them for errors and ensuring proper approvals.
o Prepare monthly accrued vacation liability journal entries.
- Bank Reconciliation Process:
o Prepare monthly bank reconciliations and ensure all discrepancies are resolved.
- Investments:
o Reconcile and post investment activity into the general ledger.
- Grant Reporting and Compliance
- Fixed Assets:
o Determine the life and depreciation of new fixed assets and process monthly depreciation.
o Record tenant improvement allowances under lease agreements and prepare supporting amortization schedules.
- General Ledger Accounting and Reconciliations:
o Prepare month-end journal entries and conduct monthly account reconciliations.
- Audit Preparation and Compliance:
o Prepare routine audit schedules and assist with the annual external audit.
o Prepare IRS Form 1099s and unclaimed property filings.
- Accounting System Maintenance:
o Develop new financial reports from the accounting system as needed.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably within the nonprofit sector or with grant accounting.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including Pivot Tables and other advanced functions and experience with accounting software (Sage Intacct preferred).
- Solid understanding of GAAP and experience with financial reporting and general ledger accounting for a multi-entity business.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Effective communication skills, capable of conveying financial information clearly to diverse audiences.
Preferred Qualifications:
- CPA or advanced degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business.
- Experience with nonprofit and grant accounting is a plus.
- Ability to work onsite in Bethesda, MD at least 3 days a week.
