SENIOR ACCOUNTANT II, STATUTORY ACCOUNTING

Our Corporate Functions are made up of teams that support Expedia Group, including Employee Communications, Finance, Legal, People Team, Inclusion and Diversity, and Global Social Impact and Sustainability. We are looking for a dedicated, independent, and thorough Statutory reporting enthusiast!
In this position, you will have primary responsibility for statutory accounting compliance for a number of EMEA and APAC companies within the Expedia Group, with a particular focus on managing the Czech company.
You will be involved in various projects to improve processes in order to demonstrate your ability to innovate and be creative.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • University degree, ACA, ACCA or equivalent professional experience
  • Big 4 Public accounting experience preferred
  • Fluency in Czech and English is required
  • Ability to use accounting knowledge and previous experience to add value and assist in meeting the department’s objectives while working in a fast-paced, team-oriented, and high-growth organization
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, v-lookups, and similar functionality)
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, capable of clearly articulating complex processes
  • Another spoken language a plus

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the Czech company’s accounting compliance by applying local GAAP to maintain accurate local accounting records and the local fixed assets register.
  • Translate and adjust the Group accounting records to comply with Czech GAAP, including mapping and preparing the Czech financial statements
  • Own the preparation of audit files for various EMEA & APAC entities, with a particular focus on managing the Czech company
  • Liaise with external auditors, coordinating the collection of all data and explanations requested, and preparing the audit file to support these. You will also be the primary contact for audit queries
  • Interact with other teams (finance or non-finance teams) and external advisors when needed to have the information readily available on a timely basis for the preparation of the statutory accounts
  • Work closely with the International Tax team on any corporation tax issues relating to the companies within your scope
  • Manage the VAT returns for the Czech Company, post monthly journals, review invoices for VAT purposes, and ensure their accurate local compliance.
  • Handle Ad hoc submissions and statistical reporting, and maintain communication with Czech tax authorities
  • Play a key role in onboarding Group companies into the established global accounting processes, including documenting process flows, establishing and maintaining relationships with external advisors and identifying efficiency improvement
  • Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations, reviewing monthly P&L and Balance Sheets, per company, prior to close - to ensure these are as expected and to assist the Corporate Accounting team in identifying errors or omissions
  • Where a company’s primary bookkeeping function is outsourced, communicate on a monthly basis with external advisors on local GAAP differences and local compliance (document retention, local Tax compliance, etc)
  • Implement, where appropriate, process improvements within the month-end cycle to increase efficiency and reduce hours
  • Ensure all SOX controls are maintained and adhered to - SOX compliance
  • Work on other ad hoc projects as needed (dissolution of existing companies, mergers, for example
