Native Shoes is looking for a Senior Accountant to join us in the journey of taking our foundational accounting practices from good to great. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor degree in Accounting or Business Administration
- Professional Accounting Designation (CPA) in good standing
- 3+ years of progressive accounting experience, including experience as an auditor for a public accounting firm
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Experience with both internal and external reporting
- Experience in foreign exchange and intercompany transactions
- Attention to detail, accuracy and timeliness
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with minimal supervision
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Experience with Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE)
- Advanced knowledge of Excel and Word, including proven experience of using advanced Excel knowledge in practice
Responsibilities:
- Review and prepare various month-end and annual schedules, reconciliations, and journal entries, including, but not limited to, inventory, prepaid expenses, capital assets, intercompany, bank loans, royalties, accounting for retail stores
- Responsible for inventory reconciliations, analysis, internal controls and working with cross-functional departments to ensure inventory accuracy
- Responsible for commissions calculations, reporting, and accruals
- Assist with preparation of internal financial reports and analysis for management, including various board reporting needs
- Research and interpret Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE)
- Liaise with and provide support to external auditors during year-end audits, implementation of new standards, and other times as required
- Assist with preparation of the budget and forecast, including variance analysis
- Preparation of Canadian and U.S. reporting requirements and tax filings, including research of various tax related matters on an ad-hoc basis
- Participate in ad-hoc projects as required by management
- Liaise with external vendors and customers as required
- Assist in the development and maintenance of internal control policies
- Document and implement process changes and improvements
- Identifying opportunities for process improvement and automation driving positive change across the organization
