Description:

The Senior Accountant will perform monthly, quarterly, and annual reconciliations of account balances and support the accounting of financial operations of the YMCA of Greater Houston. Position will also be responsible for assisting in the preparation of year-end audit schedules, Form 990, Association Deposits, Daily Treasury Management and other financial accounting matters as assigned.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Balance Sheet Reconciliations – Perform monthly, quarterly, and year-end balance sheet reconciliations for specified account balances including preparation of financial reporting requirements and journal entries to recognize or adjust activity when necessary including but not limited to cash, accounts receivable, investments, fixed assets, prepaid expenses, deferred revenue, capital and financing leases and related endowment activities.
  • Journal Entries and Financial Operations Support – Review, enter and manage operational financial activities related to recurring monthly journal entries, operational journal transfers, intercompany/interfund transactions, monthly cash activity and proper accounting entry and cash receipt distribution. Provide financial operational support to YMCA staff as needed and assist in the coordination and recognition of operational revenue and CRM systems. Provide accounting system and financial stewardship training as required to existing and new operational staff.
  • Daily/Monthly deposit activity –Ensure proper assignment of cash receipts to appropriate staff and assist in coding inquiries and coordination of month end close processes. Monitor and distribute daily cash activity and assist with daily treasury management and reporting to Senior Leadership.
  • Special projects as directed

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

May directly supervise part time, non-exempt and exempt employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; reviewing and approving timesheets; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; monitoring and updating all required staff certifications; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
