Senior Accounting Manager & Business Partner
The Senior Accounting Manager & Business Partner is responsible for managing local accounting operational and reporting activities, internal control effectiveness of Bayer Canada legal entities, as well as establishing and managing relationships with Bayer local and global business partners.
Reporting directly to the Local Head of Accounting, the Accounting Manager & Business Partner is responsible for financial reporting of Bayer Inc.
Pharmaceutical (PH) and Consumer Health (CH) businesses. This requires in-depth accounting expertise as the basis for operational and strategic decision making and compliance with local legal and accounting regulations. This role requires close collaboration with other local, regional and global accounting stakeholders, as well as partnering and advisory to each business division.
The incumbent is responsible for driving and overseeing day to day balance sheet and income statement activities, monitoring and analyzing financial and accounting data, and ensuring timely and accurate information in the production of financial statements. They must establish and ensure proper accounting methods, policies, and principles through a strong understanding of International Reporting Financial Standards (IFRS), internal guidelines, and reporting tools (eg. SAP).
This is a permanent position located at Head Office, Mississauga, ON.
Responsibilities:
Manage all accounting activities for legal entities in scope, including, but not limited to, General Ledger Accounting, Asset Accounting, Pension Accounting, Internal Accounting
Exercise professional judgement in assessing relevant financial data quality (plausibility checks) and organize corrective measures if necessary
Partner on relevant and material accounting topics with local Business functions, Global Accounting and Shared Service Finance teams to ensure end-to-end effectiveness and integrity of financial information
Execute month-end General Ledger close and internal control processes, ensuring timely delivery of financial statements and provide information for consolidation
Manage consolidation tool validation, reconcile statements, prepare OMI and comments, identify and solve issues along with preparing adjusting entries
Develop and deliver timely and accurate Flux analysis of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial results and present meaningful insights to key local and above-country stakeholders
Prepare and report Bayer Inc. and Bayer Holding Co. year-end financial statements for Board of Directors and other management reporting
Implement accounting procedures and processes in accordance with IFRS and internal guidelines and ensure compliance. Identify, review gaps and develop recommendations.
Partner with core business functions to assess accounting impacts, risks and requirements.
Develop accounting treatment judgments, as well as provide leadership and accounting expertise for complex topics such as financial instruments, goodwill & impairment, pensions, and M&A related transactions
Collaborate with the Tax team on various tax reporting requirements, deliver responses to CRA inquiries and other Tax relevant requests
Lead and plan financial audit efforts, related testing activities and represent Bayer Canada entities in global audit meetings and interactions with external auditors, including resolving all queries
Ensure adherence to ICS reporting processes, conduct ICS testing and maintain up to date and relevant documentation
Contribute to Pension Statements preparation and audit, including revising notes based on FSCO and IFRS changes, changes in investment managers and SIPP guidance
Assess all new capital projects for international and internal reporting compliance
Drive efficiencies and promote innovative ways of working via cross-functional collaboration and meaningful project contributions
