EDUCATION

  • University degree or relevant post-secondary education

EXPERIENCE

  • Experience soliciting and securing gifts, particularly major and planned gifts
  • Demonstrated ability to build philanthropic relationships with individuals, foundations, and corporations
  • Knowledge and experience with planned gifts, estates and various giving vehicles
  • Experience and understanding of all other aspects of the fundraising cycle and key focus areas such as annual giving, stewardship, special events, communications, finance, and research
  • Customer service focus with a demonstrated aptitude for building relationships that lead to gifts
  • Comfortable working with fundraising financial targets, goals, and objectives
  • CFRE designation considered an asset or commitment to achieve CFRE standingFundraising experience in an educational setting considered an asset

  • The incumbent will have demonstrated awareness of the donor relationship cycle (identification, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship)
  • Ability to interpret and communicate complex programs and ideas to a varied audience
  • Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to develop and execute complex plans and manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Superior organizational, administrative, analytical, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Professional presence, sound judgment, diplomacy and tact, and the ability to maintain confidentiality and work with sensitive information.
  • Strong computer skills in word, excel, power point, and Raiser’s Edge preferred

Responsibilities:

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

Under the direction of the Director, Major and Planned Gifts the Senior Advancement Officer, Major & Planned Gifts (SAO) will be responsible for helping to raise the necessary financial resources to advance Humber’s strategic priorities by:

  • Develop and execute strategies and plans for philanthropic revenue generation.
  • Secure and facilitate major, and planned gifts primarily at $25,000 and above from individuals, corporations, and foundations.
  • Achieve successful engagement by building, stewarding, and maintaining high-level relationships with donors, prospects and senior volunteer leaders.
  • Ensure appropriate donor cultivation, acknowledgement, recognition and stewardship activities are implemented effectively and consistently; and attend a variety of functions/events both internally and externally as required.
  • Manage a portfolio of major and planned gift donors; develop and implement plans and strategies to acquire new donors; oversee campaigns and fundraising priorities related to faculties, programs and special initiatives.
  • Develop and write fundraising communications materials such as proposals, presentations, cases for support, briefing notes, progress reports, gift agreements, letters and other documents/materials; monitor revenue and progress towards financial objectives; and ensure donor activity and key information is tracked and maintained through departmental systems and processes.
  • Contribute to advancing the planned giving program by promoting planned giving, maintaining up to date knowledge on giving vehicles, prospecting and through discussions of planned gifts with donors and prospective supporters.
  • Work collaboratively and be skilled at establishing and strengthening relationships with donors, faculty, staff, and alumni;
  • Participate actively as a member of the Advancement & Alumni team and maintain a high degree of motivation and superior work ethic; and
  • Contribute to building of a culture of philanthropy at the college
