EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • University degree in Risk Management, Business, Finance, Economics, Law, Public administration, or a related field.
  • Plus Four years related experience or the equivalent as described below.

Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience, or
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

ADDITIONAL SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Knowledge and skills in applying corporate planning and reporting principles, strategic and operational planning processes, and performance measurement and evaluation.
  • Knowledge and skills in delivering enterprise risk management principles, process, and best practices, and awareness of the Government of Alberta’s Common Risk Management Framework.
  • Knowledge of Government of Alberta legislation that outlines public sector corporate planning and reporting accountabilities.
  • Knowledge of public sector strategic management approaches and best management practices, including results-based management.
  • Knowledge of government functions, accountability frameworks, structures, and systems especially business planning and annual reporting processes and deliverables and their related processes, standards, and decision processes.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Environment and Protected Areas’ mandate, business plan, strategies, structure, and operational context.
  • Knowledge and skills in developing and facilitating client consultation or engagement processes, undertaking stakeholder analysis, and managing relationships to deliver program or project outcomes.
  • Understanding of the dynamic and continually changing societal, political, and governance complexities facing the Government of Alberta, and the economic, social, and environmental drivers impacting environment and resource management in Alberta.
  • Understanding of overall government direction and public administration practices, governance, and the ability to apply shared responsibility and accountability.
  • Strong initiative, leadership, and project management skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to analyze and synthesize complex and complicated issues, their implications including risk and opportunity identification, and provide recommended solutions and actions.
  • Strong organizational, time management and prioritization skills to effectively balance multiple priority projects and manage large amounts of information.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work independently or collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team environment and across business areas as the situation requires.

Responsibilities:

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

Environment and Protected Areas’ (EPA) conservation mandate is to develop shared stewardship of the province’s environment and natural resources for Albertans. The Senior Planning and Risk Advisor, within the Corporate Planning and Governance Branch, places a strong emphasis on developing detailed and comprehensive corporate planning and reporting strategies.
Within a results-based management framework, the Senior Advisor serves to provide guidance, expert advice, facilitation, and support to elevate the Ministry’s planning practices to new heights, with reporting as a natural outcome of effective planning efforts. The primary focus is to ensure AEP’s operational and strategic readiness through comprehensive planning.
The Senior Advisor is instrumental in facilitating, crafting, and maintaining an Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) program including a Risk Registry that aligns closely with Government of Alberta (GoA) standards. The Senior Advisor aims to instill a culture of thorough planning, embedding planning and risk management methodologies deeply into decision-making processes across all levels of the Department.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE:

  • Participate in the development and publication of Ministry business plan and Ministry contributions to the Government of Alberta Strategic Plan.
  • Participate in development and delivery of Ministry annual report and Ministry contributions to Government of Alberta Annual Report.
  • Participates in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of operational planning and reporting, and other relevant corporate reporting functions.
  • Supports the implementation and continuous improvement of AEP’s Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) program and encourages the use of best risk management practices in the Department.
