Description:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Anaesthetic Practioner/ODP who will be based in the Cath Lab. We are looking for a highly enthusiastic, committed and dynamic individual to work within the Cath Labs assisting with a variety of cases. These will comprise of Stroke Thrombectomy, Neurointervention, Electrophysiology lists, Structural heart lists that are undertaken under General Anaesthetic, and also to assist with the Primary PCI service. The successful candidate is expected to have excellent communication skills to support the team in achieving high standards of patient care within the Cath Lab. In return we offer comprehensive training and training in Advanced Life Support.
The main duties of this job will to work within the multidisciplinary team within the Cath lab to offer a high standard of patient care to patients undergoing a variety of procedures under General Anaesthetic or sedation.
In particular the role will work alongside Anaesthetists to ensure safe care to a variety of patients undergoing Neurointervention and Cardiac procedures. This role will be highly involved with the expansion of the Stroke Thrombectomy service which will become a 24/7 service in the future.

Clinical - Core

  • Assess, plan, implement, monitor, and evaluate the peri-operative care of patients using specialist knowledge and skills.
  • Acknowledge personal preferences, rights and choice of patients undergoing procedures.
  • Maintain health, safety, and the control of infection in clinical work areas in line with Trust policies and procedures.
  • Store, prepare and administer prescribed drugs to patients, and monitor the effects of drugs on patients in line with Trust policies.
  • Prepare, monitor, and maintain materials and equipment for clinical procedures, take action if found to be faulty.
  • Support, monitor and care for patients during clinical procedures.
  • Contribute to treating patients during clinical emergencies.
  • Receive, transfer and position patients for clinical procedures.
  • Maintain accurate & legible records of care.

Clinical - Anaesthetics

  • Assess requirements of safe anaesthesia within the Cath Lab and identify plan for recovery.
  • Provide all necessary equipment and materials for the list.
  • Monitor all equipment used, act if found to be faulty.
  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge of operative procedures/departmental procedures.
  • Demonstrate budgetary control, ordering and supplying materials required within agreed budgets.

Teamwork

  • Communicate effectively with other members of the Cath Lab team, Anaesthetist and other clinical work areas.
  • Acknowledge and value people’s roles within the team.
  • Recognise own and other limitations within the team and take appropriate action.
  • Provide required resources for anticipated workload and to cover 24-hour emergency rotas as required.
  • Work together with other professional groups within the Cath Lab to ensure effective & efficient use of funded Cath Lab time.
  • Participate in achieving the aims of the department/Trust.

Leadership and Innovation

  • Effectively support and act as a team leader within the Cath Lab.
  • Delegate tasks appropriately.
  • Demonstrate a flexible attitude to changes. Support and implement new changes in practice within the Cath Lab department and the Trust.
  • Contribute new ideas for change to meet patient and staff needs, provide recommendations, and evaluate change.
  • Recognise, prevent, and diffuse areas of conflict within the Cath Lab environment.
  • Contribute to the effective & efficient utilisation of Cath Lab resources, identify shortfalls & liaise with the Clinical Service Manager.
  • Carry out Personal Development Reviews to meet personal and service objectives.

Education and Coaching

  • Continually develop own knowledge by evaluating and reflecting on practice.
  • Maintain a professional profile.
  • Create a learning environment in Cath Lab.
  • Act as an assessor/mentor/preceptor to members of staff.
  • Teach others within the Cath Lab about safety for patients undergoing procedures under general anaesthetic or sedation.
  • Develop and evaluate learning materials.
  • Ensure effective supervision and assessment of students within Cath Lab.
  • Act as a role model to the Cath Lab team.
  • Promote clinical supervision activity.

Research/Governance

  • Identify clinical practice problems and offer new ideas to improve standards of care in the Cath Lab.
  • Undertake risk assessment in line with Trust policy.
  • Participate in, utilise, and disseminate research to inform practice.
  • Contribute to the development of clinical polices/procedures/guidelines/standards of care within the Cath Lab department.
