Job Summary
The Senior Analyst, Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) plays an integral role in the FP&A department, providing financial advisory to HOOPP’s divisions. This position leads budgeting and forecasting activities for the divisions they support, delivers insightful analysis and reporting, and provides advice on effective cost management strategies. The Senior Analyst possesses an in-depth understanding of planning processes and systems and leads initiatives to enhance and optimize them. They will also frequently provide support and advice in situations without precedent, requiring new approaches and processes to be established. By driving efficiencies and maintaining high standards in cost management, the Senior Analyst enhances the overall operational excellence of HOOPP’s FP&A department.
What you will do:

Support and enhance the budgeting, forecasting, and month-end processes with responsibilities that include:

  • Guide stakeholders through the planning process, ensuring all information is accurate and submitted on time.
  • Provide insights and business intelligence to stakeholders through high-quality and fact-based financial and operational analyses to assist them in accurately projecting expenses.
  • Understand the business need for each item included in the budget/forecast and gain a comprehensive understanding of all divisions’ costs to effectively craft the overall HOOPP cost story.
  • Liaise with divisional clients to understand their critical business needs and the financial impact on HOOPP.
  • Assess the validity and completeness of projected expenses through client engagement, analyzing trends, and reviewing statements of work.
  • Work with the various divisions to ensure there is no cost duplication, provide guidance on where and how costs should be captured, and ensure no gaps exist.
  • Lead the consolidation of budgets/forecasts, analyze headcount and cost deviations from plan, and prepare management reports for Divisional SVP approval.
  • Work with the Senior Manager, FP&A to establish timelines and deliverables to ensure accurate financial information is available for board reporting milestones.
  • Conduct analysis for Board reporting and prepare reports and support materials for Board presentations/meetings.
  • Support the Senior Manager, FP&A by overseeing the month-end process to ensure accurate and timely information is available to end users.
  • Bring business meaning to data by pulling information from databases, aggregating and synthesizing data using queries/ Excel/ other BI tools.
  • Monitor performance indicators, highlight trends, and analyze causes of unexpected variances. Summarize the results in an effective and efficient manner for Divisional SVPs monthly.
  • Present management reports in visually compelling ways using graphs, dashboards, and business intelligence tools. Tailor presentation details according to the end user’s unique needs, ensuring key takeaways are clear and effectively support decision-making.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert in FP&A technology, guiding the team on best practices and usage of various financial tools. Carry out administrator functions, including updating system metadata and ensuring accurate data integration across systems.
  • Lead and contribute to special projects, including recommendations to our existing tools and databases, implementation of new financial systems, processes, and tools to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of financial planning and analysis.
  • Work with business stakeholders to determine financial reporting needs. Collaborate with the Senior Manager, FP&A and the IT support team to leverage technology to meet these needs.
  • Prepare and present ad-hoc analyses to all stakeholders (including management) as requested related to actuals, budgets, and forecasts. Weigh the benefits of ad-hoc requests against the work effort involved and provide alternate high-level approaches to analysis without compromising the needs of stakeholders.
  • Support the onboarding of new analysts, ensuring a smooth integration into the team. Provide guidance to temporary resources and co-op students on their daily tasks.

What you bring:

  • University degree with a focus in Finance or Accounting
  • Completion of a professional accounting designation (e.g., CPA) or an MBA
  • 3+ years of financial planning and analysis experience and 7+ years of experience in Finance
  • An analytical mind-set with strong attention to detail is required; experience in data reporting, data management, and planning systems such as Oracle Hyperion is a strong asset.
  • High proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) with the ability to analyze and present complex data clearly to enhance decision-making.
