ABOUT US:
The Monitoring team serves as the eyes and ears of the business through its proactive monitoring of business services and ensuring they are in their desired state.
The team delivers its monitoring capabilities using various monitoring tools:
Dynatrace is the primary monitoring tool, and it is used for monitoring across the different layers of a business service. From infrastructure layer up to the end user layer. Dynatrace also serves as the integration point for all other monitoring tools and ITSM tool.
SCOM is used for application and service level monitoring.
Azure Monitor and Cloud Watch is used to deliver cloud-based monitoring.
We deliver an end-to-end service monitoring across the estate by working closely with our stakeholders from initial requirement gathering through to fulfilment.
We also provide service request automation to the business using System Centre Orchestrator. This service helps TfL as a business make significant cost savings, standardize, and improves quality of service offered by the Service Request Management team.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
We are looking for someone with expert knowledge in the following areas of technologies:
- Dynatrace monitoring solution. Skills spread across different personas. Administrator, Developer, and Operator.
- Cloud platforms, including their features and capabilities with providers such as Azure and AWS. With special focus on monitoring capabilities like AppInsight, Azure monitor, Log Analytics and Cloud watch
- Enterprise Operating Systems and Databases (e.g., Windows Server, Linux Servers, SQL Server)
- System Centre Orchestrator administrations and runbooks development as well as operational support.
IT WOULD ALSO BE ADVANTAGEOUS THAT YOU CAN DEMONSTRATE KNOWLEDGE OF THE FOLLOWING:
- Virtualisation platforms (VMware)
- Project management tools and techniques
- Azure DevOps
- ITSM tool (Remedy) operations and integration using API.
- The ideal candidate would also be educated to degree level or possess relevant professional experience.
IN ADDITION TO BEING SKILLED IN:
- Strong infrastructure engineer skills in supporting technology components across software, infrastructure, and networks.
- Strong scripting skills in PowerShell, JavaScript, and bash
- Ability to take a loose set of requirements and build a high-level architecture using common standards. Refining the architecture as more information is discovered, decisions identified, and choices are made.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with people within a broad group of stakeholders including project managers, business analysts, developers, engineers, and testers.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Delivery focused with the ability to effectively prioritise tasks in a high-pressure environment to drive activities forward and meet demanding deadlines.
Responsibilities:
With over 300 business services that requires monitoring, you will be responsible for the lifecycle management of business services monitoring. This involves creating, updating, reviewing, and decommissioning of monitoring for business services. You will be responsible for helping the project team and service performance managers scope out monitoring requirements for inflight business services. You will also work with third party supplier ensuring that their solutions are meeting the business needs. You will also be involved in delivering Enterprise Monitoring service performance review with the stakeholder.
As a senior application engineer within the Enterprise Tools & Automation team, you will be providing operational support for the System Center Orchestrator platform used for the automation of service request across the business. You will be involved in the development, testing, deployment, and operational support of automation runbooks.
