Description:

At Queensland Treasury Corporation (QTC), our Advisory Division is on a mission to drive financial sustainability and operational excellence across Queensland’s Government Departments, Local Governments and Government-Owned Corporations. We’re passionate about supporting our clients in achieving their goals and making a lasting impact.
The Research and Energy teams work closely together and are part of the Government-Owned Corporations (GOC) portfolio, which collaborates with GOC clients and Central Agencies to deliver exceptional outcomes. A key focus for the Research team is investigating the role of load flexibility from future potential electricity intensive industries in decarbonising Queensland’s economy. The benefits of this industrial sector coupling could include lower production costs, lower energy system costs and lower CO2e emissions via greater use of renewable energy.
About the role:
QTC are seeking a talented Senior Associate as part of the GOC Research & Delivery Team for Advisory Division to join us in Brisbane. The Senior Associate will apply their existing subject matter expertise (SME) in energy intensive industrial processes (eg. alumina refining) to this nascent area of research and innovation.
The Energy team undertakes energy market modelling, energy industry research and analysis, and financial and commercial advisory activities that support delivery of client and government policy outcomes. In addition to contributing your existing SME to these activities, training and development opportunities will be provided to build your energy industry expertise, such that you will play a key role in delivering Energy team projects.
You will also play an important role in contributing your existing SME to projects across the Advisory Division, including projects led by the Energy team and the Sustainability team, supporting their emissions modelling activities.
Your work in industrial decarbonisation and energy sector transition will directly contribute to better financial sustainability, risk management and financial and economic outcomes for your clients, stakeholders and Queensland.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver independent, innovative research, analytics and modelling focussed on industrial decarbonisation and use this to influence stakeholders through relevant channels, such as AEMO ISP consultation processes.
  • Deliver strategic, commercial and evidence-based advice, based on creative and rigorous quantitative modelling and problem solving, to internal and external stakeholders regarding a wide variety of energy industry issues. In doing so, employ tailored communication – verbal and written – to stakeholders.
  • Take a lead role in self and team development, demonstrating progression of development and willingness to take on stretch opportunities.
  • Develop and grow energy industry and industrial decarbonisation expertise.
  • Support the Government Owned Corporations portfolio and Research and Energy team to deliver excellent client outcomes.
  • Invest in collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
