Anti-trust, consumer protection online, content and safety issues, regulation in AI, the metaverse and advertising, e-commerce, data privacy, platform liability, freedom of speech, data.
Digital Services Act and Online Safety Bill, Digital Markets Act and Digital Markets Competition and Consumer Bill, California’s AADC, India’s IDMEC, the EU AI Act.
There is a global wave of new laws and regulations aimed at regulating digital businesses. From social media companies, to app stores, search engines and marketplaces, VoD, telecoms and many more; all digital business will be affected.
Deloitte helps our clients to foresee, understand, comply and manage their risks of compliance with these new regulations.
We are looking for talented and entrepreneurial Internet law and regulation lawyers to join our rapidly expanding team in Deloitte Legal.
This is a new and developing area. Regulating the Internet and technology is the issue of our times. We are looking for ambitious lawyers with an interest in this area and who are keen to progress their careers working in an exciting and fast paced legal team and one that is different. As part of Deloitte, the largest consultancy firm in the World, you will have access to an unparalleled client list and a global network, working closely with colleagues in the broader Internet Regulation Deloitte teams in other service lines to deliver unique market leading services.

Internet Law and Regulation is new and our team reflects that, drawing together like-minded motivated lawyers with expertise across a broad range of issues (technology, regulatory and compliance, content risks, media, advertising, competition, consumer, technology, IP, privacy, litigation etc) and from in-house, public sector and private practice. If you have a focus in these areas or you are working in a regulated sector (eg FS or telecoms or anti-trust) but would like a change of focus to technology then this may be for you!
The team works for many household-name clients as well as fast-growing companies. We provide advisory and risk and compliance advice, often acting in large cross-jurisdictional cross-expertise Deloitte teams on major projects for our clients.

We are on an ambitious growth plan. In the short term we are recruiting for mid/senior associate with proven PQE. (We are also recruiting for other PQE levels) We are looking for lawyers with relevant experience either in private practise or in-house. Most importantly, because this area is new, we are looking for lawyers who want to develop their careers in this space - rather than expecting you to have experience across the breadth of the topics and skills.
We particularly look for traits such as innovative thinking, curiosity, energy and drive, adaptability, team-orientation and a genuine interest in the area, these clients and our work.

CONNECT TO YOUR SKILLS AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Legal
We are looking for candidates with the below 5 types of experience. The list is indicative and a guide. We do not expect a candidate to have all of the below experience. Contentious and/or non-contentious experience is relevant.
1. Governance, risk and compliance experience (including working with risk and compliance functions, internal audit etc) which can be from other regulated sectors such as Financial Services.
2. Work in a regulated sector, as a regulator and/or with regulators
3. Experience advising digital/Internet companies on legal issues and risks

  1. Subject matter expertise:
  • Interest/advice around developing laws and their impact on digital business eg UK Online Harms Act, EU Digital Services/Markets Act, AI Act, New Deal for Consumers
  • Technology laws advisory work/experience for digital companies (cloud, AI, blockchain, deep fakes, quantum computing, disruptive tech)
  1. Skills:
  • Technical drafting skills
  • Agile thinkers: the ability to advise on new digital areas and new laws and regs and the related legal issues/risks/compliance
  • Ability to correspond directly with clients, including seeking instructions and providing status updates
  • Ability to work as part of a broad team
  • Ability to manage deadlines
