About the role
Are you ready to be at the forefront of Australia’s energy transition? AGL is setting a new strategic direction, targeting an exit from coal by 2035 and investing $20 billion to add 12GW of renewables.
An opportunity to be part of a transformative journey in the energy sector has become available! As a Senior Associate in AGL’s Strategy team, you will play a pivotal role in driving and developing the company’s enterprise strategy and coordinating strategic projects. You’ll work closely with senior leaders on cross-functional initiatives and ensure coherence in purpose, sustainability, culture, capability, brand, and advocacy.
This is a full-time permanent position, based in Sydney or Melbourne.
What you’ll be doing

Reporting to the Head of Strategy, you will:

  • Support the Corporate Strategy team in delivering the full enterprise strategy lifecycle, from aspiration and narrative to strategic initiatives and metrics.
  • Establish and manage a strategy governance process that links the Board, ET, and ELT to clear and informed decision-making forums.
  • Drive collaboration between business units and corporate functions to develop and implement strategies aligned with the enterprise strategy.
  • Lead or contribute to strategic initiatives that provide significant benefits to AGL.
  • Lead cross-functional projects, engage with stakeholders, and build strong relationships at all levels.
  • Quantitative and Qualitative Analysis - conduct complex analyses and prepare insights for decision-making.
  • Develop clear, concise written communications for senior colleagues, including memos, reports, and presentations.

About you

What you’ll bring to the table

  • Previous demonstrated experience as a consultant or in a strategy function within a large corporate environment (minimum 3-5 years).
  • Strong market research and quantitative skills, with experience in financial, commercial, or climate modelling preferred.
  • Proven experience in leading cross-functional projects and delivering effective outcomes.
  • Strong business acumen coupled with excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to build trusting relationships with senior executives and colleagues of varying seniority and professional backgrounds.
  • Experience in the energy industry or sustainability highly regarded
  • Master’s degree in business, economics, finance, energy, or sustainability highly regarded.
