AFME is seeking to hire a Senior Associate for our Frankfurt office. This individual will play an important role in developing and leveraging AFME’s relations with the ECB Banking Supervision and key German institutions and political stakeholders.
This is an exceptional opportunity to work across different areas in supervisory, regulatory and government affairs. Working in the Frankfurt office together with two other colleagues, the Senior Associate will be an integral part of the AFME’s pan-European advocacy team and an organisation that is at the cutting edge of forging regulatory change in European financial markets.
AFME’s Frankfurt office is instrumental in developing and executing AFME’s strategic objective of deepening coverage and raising awareness of capital markets in Germany.

Responsibilities:
THE ROLE WILL SUPPORT THE LINE MANAGER IN ACHIEVING THE FOLLOWING OBJECTIVES IN A MATRIX STRUCTURE DRIVEN ORGANISATION:
(i) acquiring a deep understanding of the dynamics of the EU’s supervisory architecture and the ECB’s role in this space, with a focus on its supervisory policies and processes;
(ii) promoting European financial markets priorities with political decision-makers in Berlin, in particular the Parliament, Ministries and Chancellery;
(iii) supporting AFME’s work on international cross-border financial market access into the EU with a focus on regulatory requirements and supervisory expectations.
The role will require creative thinking and excellent communication skills to ensure that AFME member banks, colleagues and the EU supervisory community are aware of the links between prudential regulation, supervision and regulatory requirements in a complex and fast-changing environment.
TASKS AND PROJECTS
- Support the coverage of selected dossiers across regulatory, supervisory and government affairs
- Develop expertise in public affairs, the EU legislative process, capital markets, financial sector policymaking, and the ECB’s supervisory architecture
- Participate and report on internal and external meetings and events
- Monitor relevant institutional and regulatory developments and report to colleagues and AFME’s membership
- Support the running of relevant Committee & working group meetings
- Provide support on briefing requests, speaking notes and information gathering
- Contribute to the preparation of advocacy materials and submissions including conducting research to gather relevant data
- Assist with team projects and administrative tasks as and when required
- Keep various committee configurations informed of AFME work streams
- Work closely with prudential regulation and advocacy colleagues
- Monitor research papers and reports from ECB and ESRB, and identify themes useful for AFME’s work on Banking Union and Capital Markets Union.
