POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Automation Architect, Advanced Engineering is responsible for defining and implementing the automation and systems integration strategy serving STERIS’s warehouse and distribution center operations. S/he will assess current operations process flow as well as business system and human resources interactions for opportunities to automate, optimize, and/or reduce manual input and interaction using robotic, conveyance, static and dynamic racking (VSM) opportunities, WMS and other software, virtual reality and other industry technologies. S/he will develop the automation strategy, technology roadmap, and define action plans needed to execute as well as manage execution. S/he will be expected to assess and manage the external supply base, identify suitable partners and develop key relationships with automation and technology suppliers. S/he will manage the long term technology program for key operational areas and drive the completion of projects contributing to the overall strategy across the global operational footprint. This a remote role with travel.

EDUCATION DEGREE

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering General

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • 10-15 years of experience in advanced engineering areas, including warehouse, distribution, and logistics, manufacturing, robotics, automation of warehouses, conveyance systems, warehouse design, racking, VSM, and software solutions.
  • 5 years project management and reporting experience.
  • Demonstrated positive impact to the business that translated to clear, bottom line results by implementing step-function changes.
  • Experience with and demonstrated skills in analyzing business needs, determining appropriate solutions and/or opportunities, developing lean implementation strategies, and deploying them.
  • Experience with deploying pilot programs of new/disruptive technology.
  • Successful experience with effectiveness across multi-site operations (global experience is helpful).
  • Experience managing internal and external partners on significant capital programs ($1M+).

    Pay range for this opportunity is $98,750.00 - $148,050.00.
    Minimum pay rates offered will comply with county/city minimums, if higher than range listed. Pay rates are based on a number of factors, including but not limited to local labor market costs, years of relevant experience, education, professional certifications, foreign language fluency, etc.

Responsibilities:

Strategy development:

  • Assess the designated warehouse/distribution center operations footprint, to identify opportunities to streamline flow and reduce human interaction (lifting, motion, data recording) to simplify, reduce processing time, reduce ergonomic and safety risk, and improve performance across a number of operational and financial metrics. (20%)
  • Upon completion of the assessment, develop and communicate a sustainable implementation strategy, including warehouse design (material movement, static and dynamic racking, prioritization of highest leverage opportunities, timing, projected costs, targeted technology partners and internal resource requirements for greenfield and brownfield projects. (15%)
  • Develop standard ways of working internally and externally for program management of technology projects and programs, providing Subject Matter Expert guidance on standard processing, layouts, planning, and material handling for new and existing warehouse locations. (10%)

Implement the automation strategy through a variety of activities:

  • Oversee the specification development process, establish maintenance, service, and qualification protocols of technology systems. Ensure thorough and compliant documentation is available. (15%)
  • Lead and/or complete the vendor selection and capital appropriation request processes. (5%)
  • Lead all engineering (specification development process, maintenance, service, and qualication protocols) , purchase, fabrication, installation and any applicable factory acceptance phases of the project implementation process. (20%)
  • Identify the skills necessary and develop the training programs required to acquire and develop operators and technicians capable running and maintaining installed equipment. (5%)
  • Develop and implement methods to monitor and measure effectiveness of implementations; ensure thorough and compliant documentation, lead corrective actions, as applicable. (5%)
  • Collaborate with business leadership and the corporate advanced engineering function to facilitate alignment and synergy with the advanced engineering strategy being deployed across STERIS. (5%)
