Sportable is growing, and we’re looking for a senior backend developer with a strong technical background, a passion for real-world problem-solving, and a commitment to creating a world-class, reliable, scalable, low-latency system. You’ll need to think big, offer proactive solutions, and keep your skillset sharp.
A key focal area of this role will be the technical delivery of enhancements and features to our backend, written in Golang. Focusing on APIs, databases and asynchronous messaging. Your code will run on both pitch side and cloud servers. You will be exposed to machine learning techniques and algorithms for detecting and classifying complex sporting events in real-time, streaming data, networking and CI/CD. You’ll be supported by a highly talented, multidisciplinary team of engineers, data scientists and sports scientists.

Required skills / Experience:

• Computer Science Degree (or equivalent).
• 5+ years experience in software development.
• Golang (or strong experience in other object oriented languages e.g. C++/Java/Scala).
• SQL Databases (schema design, optimization, etc. Postgresql desirable).
• Linux (basic command line, networking, bash, services, configuration) both cloud and local
• AWS / Cloud Infrastructure knowledge.
• Network protocols (HTTP, TCP/UDP, Websockets, MQTT/AMQP or other message brokers)
• Testing (TDD/BDD etc.), CI/CD, Version control (GIT)
• Basic Javascript/React or Python desirable

Responsibilities:
As part of our engineering team:
Deliver readable, reliable, testable, documented code (primarily in Golang)

- Progress our products through good architecture, well-designed APIs, and efficient data streams.
- Ensure suitability of features and interoperability with frontend and lower layer server modules / embedded systems
- Mentor more junior team members (code reviews, help with design and problem solving, etc.)Provide input on process and stack, inline with industry best practices and company objectives

- Help develop and maintain our cloud ecosystem
- Sustain the quality of features through good testing habits and maintaining CI/CD pipelines
- Provide support of production systems (for escalations) and help upskill the support team
