Description:

Are you an IT/bioinformatics expert in public health, with a strong interest in overseeing and implementing research-based IT systems, bioinformatics tools, and leading other technology initiatives across the institute? We’re looking for a colleague here at the Department of Bioinformatics to continue existing initiatives in this area and leading future processes.

YOUR EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS

You have degree in bioinformatics, computer science, IT systems administration, or a related field and/or have equivalent experience working in these fields. Please note that your master’s degree must be equivalent to a Danish master’s degree (two years 120 ECTS/2 FTE MSc + 180 ECTS/3 FTE BSc).

In addition, you:

  • Are a capable developer (Python/R).
  • Can perform a degree of Linux systems administration (ansible, systemd)
  • Able to set up systems integration (webhooks, apis)
  • Have good communication skills and are fluent in written and oral English
  • Able to work in a team environment where you contribute both to the team and yourself.

Responsibilities:

YOUR NEW ROLE – IS THIS A GOOD OPPORTUNITY FOR ME?

In this role as a bioinformatician, you will design and deploy Linux-based High Performance Compute (HPC) systems to support public health initiatives at Statens Serum Institut, including collaborations with Computerome and the National Genome Center. You will be a stronghold in a team of system administrators, ensuring seamless integration with existing systems while meeting compliance and technical requirements. Your expertise will be vital in developing and troubleshooting bioinformatics pipelines, supporting EU-funded projects, and piloting generative AI systems. You will serve as a key technical liaison between the bioinformatics department, other IT groups, and external partners, ensuring robust, scalable solutions for research, surveillance and diagnostics.

ABOUT THE WORK ENVIRONMENT AND YOUR ROLE IN IT

  • We work with Linux High Performance Compute (HPC) systems that support public health initiatives, including Computerome and the National Genome Center. We also collaborate with Statens IT.
  • You’ll be responsible for designing and deploying the system, building on and integrating with existing systems. This will include work with compliance and other IT departments to ensure solutions can be done.
  • Our bioinformatics team consists of over 20 members with technical backgrounds, including full-time staff dedicated to developing and managing the HPC systems. These will be your main collaborators on a daily basis, where you will be key in coordinating tasks.
  • You’ll be representing bioinformatics HPC needs with other IT departments.
  • Your knowledge of the system and how it interfaces with SSI and public health, will be utilized for projects including EU projects where you will provide expert input and take key roles in. This would include involvement in several ongoing EU projects.
  • Being interested in technology such as AI and how it applies to public health is crucial.
  • You will oversee coordinating key technical tasks in the bioinformatics department. This includes being on top of laboratory equipment or keeping track current IT setup in the department.
  • You’ll assist in adding to existing documentation and helping coordinate the structure of this.
  • Familiarity with microbial bioinformatics workflows and pipelines. You’ll be expected to assist in deploying these at scale and assist other bioinformaticians in developing and troubleshooting them. Here you’re expected to be able to help with structuring development standards for the bioinformatics team. This involves work in both Python and R.
