Senior Transfusion Scientist - Blood Transfusion
Blood Sciences in BCUHB and are seeking applications from enthusiastic, capable, flexible scientists to join our vibrant and forward looking service to s upport the Transfusion Service Manager and associated staff in delivering the service during a busy and exciting period of modernisation.
We are looking for a BMS with experience at Band 6 or above who has attained (or is working towards) MSc / Higher Specialist.
As a Senior Biomedical Scientist, the post holder will be required to work within the professional standards expected as a registrant of the Health Professions Council (HCPC) and maintain a portfolio of evidence supporting Continuing Professional development (CPD).
The post holder will be required to conform to agreed standard operational procedures, policies and good laboratory practice and also within their work duties, comply with the standards as required of UKAS and other relevant professional and Legislative Bodies (e.g. H.T.A., B.S.Q.R.)
The post holder will be part of a team of senior scientists responsible for the operational delivery of core and specialist blood sciences services on a named site.
As a registered Biomedical Scientist, they are responsible for the delivery and continued development of a comprehensive blood sciences service to meet the needs of the BCUHB clinical and patient population and led by the strategic and operation direction set by the CPG and communicated through the Blood Transfusion Service manager. Working with the Blood Sciences Site manager, the local Senior Scientific Team and the pan BCU senior scientific team; the post holder will input to service design and development and will implement agreed developments and departmental policy through effective management of a team of scientific and support staff.
The post holder will exercise autonomy within professional boundaries and will be involved in managing priorities, designing and implementing developments, managing and delivering training and overseeing quality within the blood sciences department as part of a multi-skilled
team.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Demonstrate sufficient Transfusion knowledge
Able to collate, evaluate, submit and review IQC and EQA
Communicate effectively with staff and clinical teams
Investigate and document incidents and non-conformances thoroughly
Complete audits in line with the Transfusion Laboratories audit schedule and identify and perform audits in order to improve and/or identify deficiencies in a process
Monitor, arrange, maintain and calibrate all transfusion assets
Review existing SOP’s, RA, COSHH etc as required and maintain documentation in line with UKAS ISO 15189
Assists in the development of new processes, document writing and validation
Maintains, reviews and organizes inventory of blood products, reagents and other transfusion related parameters
Assists in the development of staff training and competency requirements
Ensures all staff working in the transfusion laboratory have evidenced training and competency documentation
