£42,791 to £45,955 per annum (for exceptional performers, there is scope for further progression up to £61,235 per annum).

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree in a relevant subject area or relevant sector experience

EXPERIENCE

  • Experience of using a variety of data sources
  • Experience of analysing data to inform business decisions
  • Experience of producing data / insights outputs utilizing relevant tools and software
  • Knowledge of the Higher Education sector
  • Extensive experience of building and using databases/reporting tools; proven experience in manipulation and analysis of large volumes of data
  • Active engagement in the wider communities of practice related to data visualisation and advanced business analytics
  • Experience of writing executive level reports and presenting to diverse users
  • Excellent business analysis and requirements gathering skills
  • Experience in developing successful strategies, at both organisation and business unit level and/or for specific functional areas

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

  • Highly proficient IT skills, particularly Alteryx, Tableau and Excel
  • Strong communicator with the ability to build positive working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders
  • Experience in working independently and as part of a team, including experience in prioritising and working to deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal skills required to influence a wide range of colleagues/stakeholders
  • Experience and/or practical working knowledge of using SQL to extract and manipulate data from enterprise business systems
  • Innovator with proven experience in delivering information solutions for a user base, requiring influencing and communication skills
  • Ability to foster a positive culture of energetic and creative problem solving to respond to an ever-changing array of often complex data acquisition, management and utilisation challenges

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of a suite of business analytics dashboards and reporting incorporating analysis of complex business problems to provide insight to decision makers. Includes researching, designing, modifying, testing, debugging, troubleshooting and maintaining source code.
  • Work collaboratively with project managers, business representatives, end-users and technical teams to deliver systems that support effective and efficient business processes and align with University Strategy
  • To understand business change needs, assess the business impact of the changes, and capturing, analysing and documenting requirements to support project methodologies.
  • To collaborate with all relevant stakeholders in the management and communication of the business requirements and benefits, and to ensure the successful realisation of benefits to the University.
  • Ensure the development and provision of insightful information and analysis for presentation in written, table, and visual web-based reporting formats, for a variety of internal and external audiences.
  • Work with senior colleagues across Colleges, Professional Services and VCE to understand and prioritise data and information requirements, and provide expertise advice and guidance as required.
  • Liaise with colleagues across the institution to ensure the effective design of related schemas, databases, user interfaces, and / or integration to other systems / applications.
  • Support the ongoing evolution of BI through regularly reviewing the scope and quality of information at our disposal and identifying new sources of data and new means of intelligence required to answer key business questions.
  • Lead on the development and production of standard management information outputs to support planning and monitoring of Institutional Success Measures at institutional as well as College and Department level.
  • Co-ordinate the ongoing development of BI reporting, drawing together data from across the University.
  • Develop, maintain and manage accurate and robust data mining and reporting systems across a range of key areas.
  • Ensure continuous improvement of the central Insights Hub.
  • Liaise with colleagues across the University on reporting requirements to support of the development of data structures and systems through effective brief taking.
  • With respect to data governance within the University, play a strong role actively representing SIP requirements and concerns in UoD data governance initiatives, processes and programmes. Within SIP, play a lead role ensuring adoption and compliance with any relevant data governance practices, especially contributing to the development of enterprise data definitions and the data dictionary.
  • Support the monitoring of the quality of data within reporting systems and identify strategies and processes to improve data integrity.
  • Cultivate within the team a stronger awareness of and engagement with the wider communities of practice in data visualisation and advanced uses of data, for example in the development of predictive models for a range of business purposes aligned to strategic priorities.
  • Play a leading role in the ongoing development of the University’s data infrastructure, working in close liaison with colleagues from IT and the Registry in particular.
  • Establish and oversee a proactive approach to training colleagues across the University to help embed an effective ‘self-service’ element of the BI Strategy.
  • Take appropriate measures to ensure issues of quality and confidentiality associated with the storage, retrieval and distribution of data are maintained and robust.
  • Develop and maintain appropriate technical skills to maximise the use of available information technology for the delivery of a high quality service.
  • Support longer-term planning through forecasting, modelling and scenario planning with regards to student numbers and budgets.
  • Provide project management support on a range of projects and institutional initiatives as required
