In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
Reporting to the Director, Infrastructure and Hosting Services, the Senior Business Intelligence Analyst leads a cross functional team of business and technical staff to develop, design, build, monitor, maintain and support a variety of intelligence products used within designated programs/services throughout Island Health. As a key team member, the Senior Business Intelligence Analyst works closely with senior leadership to ensure that design, changes, and support of intelligence projects and operations are in line with the overarching vision and roadmap of the intelligence strategy.
The Senior Business Intelligence Analyst will work closely with business and data stakeholders, other teams across Island Health and partner health authorities, project managers, and other functions to foster relationships, increase collaboration and represent business intelligence. Possessing expert intelligence analysis knowledge and experience, the Senior Business Intelligence Analyst will push forward the continual improvement of intelligence products including designing solutions, services, and systems while ensuring the business and technical sustainability and cost meet changing business needs. The role will also stay current with intelligence trends and best practices to maintain and mentor their expertise and act as a trainer or coach for technical staff.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems Management or a related technical discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. A minimum of eight (8) years of industry experience in Business Intelligence or a related data intensive field with a proven track record of success in managing business and technical teams or projects. Demonstrated experience in a business intelligence role in designing and deploying large scale solutions.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Proven ability to design, develop, deploy and maintain multi-tiered intelligence solutions.
  • Cloud or related technical certifications are an asset.
  • Expert skills in data modeling, data visualization, and intelligence analysis, and data warehousing architecture with solid knowledge of various industry standards.
  • Proven track record of leading business and technical staff to achieve project and operational goals.
  • Expert-level understanding of software development, deployment and release processes.
  • Demonstrated hands on experience building sophisticated intelligence solutions.
  • Deep understanding of business intelligence best practices and modern data visualization methodologies and architectures, including trending, forecasting, and user interaction.
  • Strong analytical, prioritizing, interpersonal, problem-solving, presentation, budgeting, project management (from conception to completion), & planning skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with multi-disciplinary teams with different lines of reporting.
  • Demonstrated leader with skills in teaching, coaching and mentoring others.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate complex ideas and processes in simple terminology to internal and external stakeholders, including all levels of management.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and maintenance of high-quality standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, meeting deadlines under pressure, with minimal supervision and frequent interruptions.
  • Works effectively under time pressure to meet deadlines, balance work priorities and resolve problems in a timely manner.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
