ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE OF THE SENIOR BUYER:

  • Proven experience in a procurement role with a focus on operational procurement practices.
  • Strong negotiation skills with the ability to secure the best value for the company.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship management skills.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing the requisition-to-pay process.
  • Leadership experience.
  • Understanding of commercial contract terms and conditions.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE SENIOR BUYER:

  • Equivalent through work experience or Qualified to Degree level
  • MCIPS or studying towards MCIPS or equivalent professional qualifications
  • Knowledge of ERP systems (e.g., IFS, SAP, Oracle).

At Babcock we’re working to create a safe and secure world, together, come and join our dynamic Procurement Team as a Senior Buyer at our Rosyth site.

THE ROLE

In this pivotal role as a Senior Buyer, you will be responsible for the smooth execution of the requisition-to-pay process, ensuring efficient management of orders, supplier performance, and cost-effectiveness for assigned projects. You will play a key role in delivering value by optimizing the procurement process, managing a team of buyers, and fostering strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

DAY-TO-DAY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Requisition to Payment: Efficiently manage the requisition-to-order conversion, order book, expediting, and payment processes to ensure timely delivery and on-time payments to suppliers.
  • Sourcing: Play a key role in supplier on-boarding, sourcing within existing agreements, and leading negotiations to secure the most cost-effective solutions.
  • Supplier & Performance Management: Ensure compliance with contracts and specifications, monitor supplier performance through KPIs and SLAs, and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Leadership: Lead and develop a team of buyers, providing coaching and mentorship to enhance their capabilities.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Maintain excellent communication with colleagues across categories, procurement functions, senior management, and external suppliers.
  • Continuous Improvement: Proactively identify opportunities to improve the requisition-to-pay process, lead change management initiatives, and contribute to value plans.
    This role is full time 36 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 3 days in the office/onsite and 2 days working from home.
