Responsibilities:
The Catering Service in Writtle currently operates a main restaurant, cafe and provides hospitality for meetings and events. Your can-do attitude and previous experience will enable you to work in The Watering Hole café, based at Cow Watering Campus, largely independently. Your typical day would start at 7am collecting stock needed for the day from the main campus, before driving to The Watering Hole to start setting up and cooking simple food items, ready to open at 8am. During opening times, you would cook and prepare food, and serving customers, to include operating tills and making coffee. You will take pride in maintaining a clean and attractive environment for customers. The outlet closes at 2pm, and after cleaning and locking up you would head back to the main campus to store keys and check in the Catering Management Team, with a 2:30pm finish time.
Food Safety Level 1, experience of basic food preparation, understanding of food safety and till experience are requirements for this role. You must be comfortable and confident using basic commercial kitchen equipment such as ovens, fryers and coffee machines, and be able to prepare simple food items such as hot wraps, burgers, chips, pastries and jacket potatoes. Good communication skills and a strong customer focus are essential. Due to the location of The Watering Hole, the postholder must have a full UK driving licence and own transport.
This role will work Monday-Friday 7am-2:30pm, working 37-weeks of the year. The 37-weeks typically follows the Higher Education Timetable, which means Easter and Christmas would be non-working weeks, as well as a long summer break. The postholder would be required to work during school half term weeks. With advance notice there may be occasional evening and weekend work, for which paid overtime would be offered.
If you’re interested in working in catering and pride yourself on providing excellent customer service, we’d love to hear from you.
Informal enquiries can be made to Tracey Tanner, Catering Operations Manager, at tracey.tanner@aru.ac.uk.
