Description:

Freightliner is the UK’s largest maritime intermodal logistics operator, transporting containers from all major deep-sea ports to our national network of inland terminals, as well as a leading operator in the UK Heavy Haul rail freight market. In the UK the Freightliner Group operates under a number of legal entities including Freightliner Group Ltd, Freightliner Heavy Haul Ltd, Freightliner Ltd, Pentalver Transport Ltd, and Pentalver Cannock Ltd.

Purpose of the Role:

  • Manage and oversee the Network Rail contractual claims process, ensuring compliance with all obligations
  • Support and assist with other activities undertaken by the Performance Team as required.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Oversee submission of Schedule 4 Claims (Category 1 and 2) within contractual timescales.
  • Oversee submission of Service Variation and Cancellation (SV&C) claims within contractual timescales.
  • Oversee and optimise compensation claims for Actual Costs and Losses, including:
  • Schedule 4 Category 3 Claims.
  • Late Notice Actual Costs Claims.
  • Network Change Claims.
  • Collaborate with Planning, Finance, Operations and other internal teams to establish and enhance processes for managing claims.
  • Develop and implement new procedures to improve the value of claims and the efficiency of the claims process.
  • Collaborate with the Network Rail account team, managing queries and ensuring smooth process execution.
  • Support to cover the other activities carried out by other members of the Performance Team as and when required.

Financial

  • Focussed on working within budget parameters.
  • Ensure claims are submitted and settled within contractual timescales
  • Track and report claim values to Performance, Finance, and other relevant business teams.
  • Focussed on continuous improvement to enhance efficiencies and effectiveness in the performance team

Health and Safety

  • Responsible for safety culture improvement within the performance team;
  • Responsible for maintaining standards within the performance team and implementing an audit process to analyse and regulate these;
  • Taking reasonable care of own health and safety and that of any person who may be affected by your acts or omissions at work
  • Co-operating with FL to comply with health and safety legislation
  • Carrying out any work in accordance with any training, instruction or company procedure that is relevant to the position
  • Informing your line manager of any health and safety problems identified by yourself or identified to you by other people
  • Using any safety equipment provided by FL that you have been trained to use in a proper and appropriate manner
  • All staff to comply with the Drugs and Alcohol policy RG-GEN 023

Key job requirements:

  • Knowledge of railway operations and rail industry structure
  • Proven experience working within a Train Operating Company, Freight Operating Company, Infrastructure Manager, or similar roles in the transport sector
  • Experience in managing contractual claims
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to convey financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience in line management or supervisory roles.
  • Knowledge of Network Code and DAPR
  • Detailed knowledge of Schedules 4 and 8 of the Track Access Contract
  • Working knowledge of train and possession planning processes
  • TOPS knowledge, and basic understanding of TRUST delay attribution
  • Self-motivated, able to work unsupervised and take initiative.
  • Subject to pre-employment checks:

  • Ability to deliver in a challenging, ‘flat structured’ environment
