An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Clinical Coding Department at Wye Valley Trust for a highly motivated individual to join the team as a Senior Clinical Coder/ Specialty Lead, Band 5. The role will involve mentoring and training coders within own specialty/specialties/ team, whilst also supporting the Clinical Coding Team Leader to ensure monthly mandated coding deadlines are met.
This is a vacancy with a difference as we are looking for an applicant who will enjoy the opportunity and challenge to progress and develop their post ACC skills, but who also has a strong interest in becoming a Clinical Coding Auditor. Support will be provided to enable this to be achieved, with both financial and allocated study time, timeframes for this will be dependent on when the CC Auditor course is next available.
Communication skills both written and verbal will need to be of a high standard as will an extensive knowledge of ICD10/ OPCS4/ Anatomy & Physiology and National Standards.
The applicant will enhance their own learning with the continuous involvement of validation and data analysis, and will be expected to maintain their own high level of coding with regard to numbers coded and expected % accuracy.

The post-holder will be a subject matter expert for Clinical Coding with delegated responsibility for a particular specialty/specialties also with responsibility for assisting the Clinical Coding Team Leader with the day to day management of the Coding Team, including allocation of work. This also involves ensuring all agreed national and local timescales are adhered to as set out within the NHS Contract and ensuring accuracy up to the agreed standard as set out by NHS digital.
They will be expected to promote awareness of Clinical Coding, related financial regimes e.g. PBR and HRGs throughout the Trust, liaising with Senior Consultants and Clinicians as a lead expert for Coding within the Trust.
To assist the Clinical Coding Management Team in developing and implementing policies to support the Clinical Coding function.
Demonstrate the ability to analyse, use judgement and extract relevant complex clinical information from case notes and electronic systems to translate to ICD-10 and OPCS classification codes. Support Trust information, costing, statistical analysis and performance functions by ensuring coding is achieved in a timely manner to achieve Trust deadlines.
The post holder must ensure that their own knowledge and skills are kept updated and also continued improvement of anatomy and physiology skills and medical terminology.
