Description:
Applications are invited for a Clinical Fellow post in Cross Sectional Cancer Imaging, for a period of 12 months.
The directorate is accepting applications for candidates looking at starting immediately or in September 2025.
Applicants should hold full GMC registration.
You will also be joining a team comprised of 25 consultants, with other existing Consultant vacancies. We are also a training department, with places for up to three rotational trainees at any given time.
There will be opportunity to supplement income by undertaking additional, paid cross-sectional imaging sessions.
Applicants should have completed their general radiological training requirements, obtained FRCR and be within 6 months of CCST or post CCST.
The post is principally to obtain specific education and training in cross-sectional cancer imaging particularly with regard to PET – CT imaging, with access to online PET CT modules, cases and protected PET-CT reporting sessions. Further experience will be gained in specialist MR, with imaging performed to cater for a wide variety of tertiary subspecialist MDTs.
The associated job-plan is provisionally split into 32 hours per week of direct clinical care including CT, MR and PET-CT scanning, with eight hours for research and administration. Sub-specialty interests are welcomed. Applicants should have a specific interest in specialist oncological imaging and clinical research. There are on-going audit and research opportunities in the department and these would be actively encouraged.
The Christie is one of Europe’s leading cancer centres, treating over 60,000 patients a year. We are based in Manchester and serve a population of 3.2 million across Greater Manchester & Cheshire, but as a national specialist around 15% patients are referred to us from other parts of the country.
We provide radiotherapy through one of the largest radiotherapy departments in the world; chemotherapy on site and through 14 other hospitals; highly specialist surgery for complex and rare cancer; and a wide range of support and diagnostic services. We are also an international leader in research, with world first breakthroughs for over 100 years.
We run one of the largest early clinical trial units in Europe with over 300 trials every year. Cancer research in Manchester, most of which is undertaken on the Christie site, has been officially ranked the best in the UK.

Responsibilities:
The medical establishment consists of 27 consultants, 4 clinical fellows in Oncology Imaging (including the post being advertised), 1 clinical fellow in Interventional Radiology and up to 5 Specialist Trainees in Clinical Radiology. The directorate also collaborates with 3 additional consultants from other GM Trusts that support PET-CT reporting.
The Clinical Director has professional responsibility for medical staff and clinical responsibility for the Radiology service. He is supported by lead consultants in CT, MR, US, Interventional Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, General Radiology, Clinical Audit and Information Technology and by the clinical tutors for the specialist trainees and fellows.
The appointee will be based at The Christie and will provide senior input to education and training in specialist cancer imaging; particularly in reference to PET-CT and also including sub-specialist CT and MR. The post holder will be supported in producing imaging reports and in further enhancing their involvement with specialist MDTs.
The post holder’s routine clinical work will initially be closely supervised but they will practice increasingly independently as their experience develops during the year. In turn, the post holder will be able to supervise trainee Radiologists as time and expertise progress.
There is a significant proportion of time dedicated to research and audit, and the successful candidate is expected to contribute to projects leading to scientific publications, as well as presentations at national and international meetings.
