Description:

Applications are welcomed for a fixed term appointment for 12 months. This post is suitable for post MRCP doctors with experience in general medicine or neurology. The successful candidate will be expected to carry out the duties of the post which includes neurology and hyperacute stroke ward work, outpatient clinics, covering neurology and stroke out of hours on a 1:18 basis and supervision of the CMTs/JCFs attached to the unit. The post is mainly based at Denmark Hill but may rotate for a 3 month period to Princess Royal University Hospital.
We have a strong ethos of excellence in postgraduate education and training and will support ongoing professional development of the successful applicant. Formal educational supervision will be available, and the successful applicant will participate in all educational activities of the department.
This post is part of the neurology/stroke SpR training team and will be based in the neurology unit. The duties will comprise assistance with the care of patients on the wards, attendance at appropriate clinics, acute thrombolysis on-call and on–call cover for regional neurology beds at King’s College Hospital.
The appointee will be expected to carry out the duties of the post which include ward work and supervision of the SHOs/JCFs. A full timetable will be made available after appointment.

There are many educational opportunities within the unit with regular subspecialty meetings in addition to the main academic half day that occurs every Friday. The Friday meeting provides an opportunity for all consultants and junior staff to meet and for juniors to present cases in a grand round forum. In addition there are regular audit and clinical governance meetings which should be attended by SpRs.
Trainees at all levels are encouraged to be involved in teaching undergraduates from the GKT medical school, in addition to providing “in service” training and mentoring of other members of junior staff
