Description:

Two posts in Paediatric Emergency Medicine with an interest in either Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS) or Paediatric Major trauma, for 12 months starting September 2025.
We are pleased to announce exciting opportunities for doctors wishing to gain further experience and expertise in Paediatric Emergency Medicine, whilst also expanding their skills in either POCUS or Paediatric Major Trauma. They will also get experience in managing and leading a hectic emergency department safely and effectively.
We are looking for experienced doctors who have completed at least 3 years post-Foundation training in either paediatrics or Emergency Medicine (with at least 6 months in paediatrics if EM trained). Successful candidates will be able to show a real interest in Paediatric EM, and show how these posts will further their training and career. They are suitable for those looking for Out of Program experience (OOP), working alongside RCPCH Grid trainees in PEM.
Candidates must have experience as a middle grade, and have worked in the UK NHS for at least 12 months.
There is dedicated time within the post to gain particular experience with either POCUS (1 post) or Paediatric Major Trauma (1 post), and to complete QI / Education / research projects within these areas. There is also an expectation that candidates will engage with the wider teaching and QI work within the department.
These posts sit within the senior decision maker (SDM) rota within the paediatric ED. Doctors will assess and manage the wide range of presentations of illness and injury in children and young people. They will support more junior resident doctors (along with the consultants), and help the wider MDT team provide effective and quality care to children and their families.

Key areas of responsibilities;

  • To provide initial assessment and treatment of children brought to the Emergency Department.
  • To support the nursing and medical team within the department, and provide supervision and support for less experienced trainees.
  • To hone experience in the resuscitation of critically unwell children, and to gain experience in major trauma in children and young people.
  • To complete quality improvement projects to improve the care the department can provide for it’s patients.

At Imperial College Healthcare you can achieve extraordinary things with extraordinary people, working with leading clinicians pushing boundaries in patient care. Become part of a vibrant team living our values - expert, kind, collaborative and aspirational. You’ll get an experience like no other and will fast forward your career. Benefits include career development, flexible working and wellbeing, staff recognition scheme. Make use of optional benefits including Cycle to work, car lease schemes, season ticket loan or membership options for onsite leisure facilities.
We encourage staff to have the Covid vaccination to protect themselves, patients, other colleagues as well as the wider community. Please note it is an operational requirement to comply with infection prevention and control procedures within the Trust such as lateral flow testing, handwashing and the wearing of masks, according to the procedures in place at any time or location.
As part of our continued response to Covid19 we are still conducting the majority of our interviews virtually.
We are committed to equal opportunities and improving the working lives of our staff and will consider applications to work flexibly, part-time or job share. Please talk to us at interview.
