Description:
Communication Maintains excellent lines of communication with service users, referrers, practitioners, operators and administrators, both from within and outside the organisation, to ensure a high standard of service for patients Engages with patients to ensure their understanding of and compliance with the diagnostic or therapeutic process to be undertaken Provides technical advice to clinical and non-clinical staff, in relation to safe use and handling of radioactive medicines Liaises with Estates and Facilities team to coordinate off-site disposal of low-level radioactive waste Liaises with Radiopharmaceutical suppliers and Pharmacy QC to ensure effective radiopharmaceutical ordering and use Provides effective feedback to staff and students during and after training Disseminates learning from attendances at conferences and seminars Planning and Design Participates in planning of clinical and technical processes for therapeutic nuclear medicine procedures Participates in planning of clinical work schedules (including staff rotations) to ensure that patients receive treatments or diagnostic tests in a timely manner, prioritising urgent clinical work as necessary Improvement, Monitoring, Policy/Service Development Participates in the development of safe standard operating procedures for the clinical and technical aspects of radiopharmaceutical therapy and non-imaging Nuclear Medicine services Participates in the implementation of recommendations from both internal and external audits Clinical and Technical Fulfils the role of Radiation Protection Supervisor (RPS) in accordance with the Ionising Radiations Regulations, and that of Operator in accordance with the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposures) Regulations Performs quality control testing of specialist Nuclear Medicine radiation counting equipment, including out-of-specification reporting Performs non-imaging Nuclear Medicine studies, including taking blood samples, laboratory manipulation of samples, radioactive sample counting and results calculation Orders radioactive medicines for patients, on an individual patient basis, correcting for radioactive decay and reference dates Dispenses radiopharmaceuticals for patient use, using manual or automated shielded dispensing systems, under aseptic conditions Prepares radioactive treatment rooms for patient use and decontaminates following treatment Ensures decontamination or decay storage of radioactively contaminated items Provides guidance and information to patients relevant to their investigation Performs intravenous cannulation; practises safe disposal of sharps Administers diagnostic and therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals to patients, orally, intradermally or intravenously. Management, Training & Leadership Participates in management of work scheduling and rotas for the technical team Ensures that radioactive medicines are ordered and received for each patient, as prescribed Ensures that clinical processes are followed correctly and in compliance with infection control requirements Acts as mentor for trainee Clinical Technologists and junior team members in radionuclide therapy and non-imaging nuclear medicine services Takes responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the radioactive waste system, including the two on-site radioactive decay stores Ensures that radiopharmaceuticals are ordered and accumulated within statutory limits and that stock levels of consumables are maintained Investigates reported errors, deviations and near-misses Finance and Budget Orders radioactive medicines and associated consumables for routine use Digital and Information Maintains accurate records of patient related data on Radiology Information System Maintains accurate records of radioactivity locations, administrations, storage and disposals on the Radioactivity Management System Research Development.
