Job Title: Senior Commercial Lending Officer Department: Loans/Lending
Reports To: Director of Commercial Lending FLSA Status: Exempt
SUMMARY:
A mission-driven financial institution serving the banking needs of Detroit for over 59 years. First Independence Bank is seeking a Senior Commercial Lending Officer. This opportunity is due to our continued growth and expansion in the banking space.
The Senior Commercial Lender is responsible for the development and growth of the bank’s loan portfolio in commercial real estate lending, small business lending, and commercial and industrial lending. The Senior Lender coordinates will collaborate with the internal teams to ensure successful product delivery, assess credit risks, and maintain compliance. The Senior Commercial Lender will be involved in the community by building relationships and deepening partnerships to make an impact and deliver meaningful resources.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelors Degree (BA/BS) or equivalent
- Strong commercial credit skills
- Strong commercial real estate lending, small business lending, commercial and industrial lending experience.
- Preferred candidate will have experience working with community development programs such as affordable housing and tax credit programs
- Ten years related experience preferred
- Five years management experience in credit administration preferred
- Excellent negotiator who possesses strong closing skills
- An articulate individual who can relate to people at all levels of an organization and possesses excellent communication skills
- This is a hybrid schedule position (onsite and remote)

Responsibilities:
- Provide support, direction, credit information, and loan policies and procedures to ensure the overall quality of the Bank’s lending portfolio
- Reviews and approves/declines large and complex loans prior to their submission to the Loan Committee
- Manage the credit administration function to produce quality loan relationships that provide profitability and growth to the overall loan portfolio.
- Ensures the safety and soundness of the bank’s lending portfolio
- Establishes growth goals for loan volume and growth for lenders
- Prepares and distributes credit information covering loan quality trends, growth trends and loan product concentrations
- Prepares and discusses loan information submitted to the Board of Directors for approval
