Description:

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • CPA designation is highly preferred, with 3+ years of relevant industry experience
  • University degree in Business, Accounting, or a related field
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage effectively with all levels of the organization
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Strong experience with Yardi Voyager 7S financial reporting software

Responsibilities:

ABOUT THE ROLE:

We are looking for a Senior Commercial Property Accountant to join our clients dynamic Accounting Team within their Property Management division. We are looking for a candidate with a solid background in real estate and a thorough understanding of real estate asset reporting. The ideal candidate is a proactive self-starter with a natural curiosity, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and possesses the ability to multitask and efficiently prioritize tasks while meeting deadlines. A strong sense of ownership in their work and a solid foundation in accounting and reporting are essential for success in this role. This position reports directly to the Controller.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare and report monthly HST
  • Reconcile bank statements, mortgages, loans, and monthly journal entries
  • Prepare and process annual Tenant CAM/TAX recovery reconciliations
  • Investigate and validate recovery rules in tenant leases
  • Verify coding and ensure accurate processing of accounts payable, obtaining authorization from property managers, and reviewing payments before submitting for management approval
  • Ensure proper chargeback of utilities and other expenses to tenants
  • Prepare intercompany billings for commissions, management fees, and maintenance wages
  • Prepare and submit annual MPAC financial reporting requirements and vacancy rebates
  • Prepare and submit quarterly financial statement surveys as required by Statistics Canada
  • Prepare year-end audit working papers and liaise with auditors
  • Generate various accounting reports and analyses as needed
  • Prepare both audited and unaudited financial statements for internal and external stakeholders
  • Prepare and review annual budgets and quarterly forecasts
  • Support property management personnel with financial accounting matters
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management
