The Opportunity
Our Power & Energy Solutions team is looking to add an #EnergyProblemSolver in Calgary to support growing and optimizing our power business in Canada.
We are seeking an energetic Senior Commercial Specialist who has knowledge and experience in executing on power development opportunities and power purchase agreements. This individual has the proven skills, competencies and capacity to deliver accretive opportunities to hedge our existing assets, deliver on growth opportunities around our assets and deliver new power asset opportunities in the future.

What you’ll do

  • Execute on buy-side and sell-side commercial opportunities (including physical and financial PPAs, tolling structures and environmental commodities such as RECs and carbon offsets) that provide stability and growth of earnings for the PES business unit
  • Drive initiatives to optimize TC Energy’s existing fleet of thermal and renewable assets in Canada
  • Collaborate cross-functionally and cross-border with internal PES teams including Analytics, Trading and Energy Solutions to ensure alignment on value creation
  • Engage with various TC Energy stakeholder groups including Legal, Risk and Project Governance, as required, to ensure all commercial activities are minimizing risk while delivering value
  • Mentor and support PES Commercial teammates as required to help grow our organization’s commercial capabilities

Minimum Qualifications

  • 15 years of relevant experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, economics or engineering
  • For Engineering, “Registered, or eligible to register, with APEGA as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in good-standing”
  • Meaningful experience negotiating and executing on commodity purchase and sales agreements
  • History of leadership roles at progressively more senior positions throughout career
  • Strong understanding of Alberta power market fundamentals

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in related field
  • History of working in large, multinational organizations
  • Experience with financial modeling and risk management tools used in the power markets
  • Proven track record of managing complex projects and cross-functional teams
  • Proficiency in using trading platforms and software relevant to power markets
  • Familiarity with regulatory and compliance standards in the power industry
  • Demonstrated ability to drive strategic initiatives and deliver results in a competitive market
