Description:
Together we are Trusted to Serve Scotland.
Our Internal Communications team drives conversation at Scottish Water.
Great communication keeps our people informed, connected, and engaged. We want to make sure everyone gets the information they need and communicates well with each other.
Help us keep the conversation flowing! We’re looking for a Senior Communications and Engagement Consultant to join the team. This is a Fixed Term opportunity for 12 months.
What you’ll be doing:
As a Senior Communications and Engagement Consultant, you’ll play a key role in planning, creating, and delivering impactful communication and engagement strategies that bring our strategic plans and ambitions to life.
You’ll take the lead on organising our corporate internal employee events. From concept to delivery, you’ll align every detail to our goals, budget, and timelines. You’ll collaborate with leaders, employees, and project teams across Scottish Water to develop clear, engaging messaging, and then plan, manage, and deliver the communication strategy. Whether it’s managing suppliers, coordinating venues, or overseeing logistics, you’ll make sure the events run smoothly and leave a lasting positive impact.
Flexibility is key, as you’ll need to adapt your plans to meet shifting event objectives and business needs. Keen attention to detail will help you anticipate potential issues and implement contingency plans. And you’ll always have your health and safety hat on, making sure events comply with legal requirements, conducting detailed risk assessments and implementing emergency measures.
After each event, you’ll help us analyse its success, preparing reports and using insights to drive continuous improvement. Always looking for fresh ideas, you’ll research new formats and technologies to keep our events innovative and engaging.
What you’ll need:
You’ll have experience in developing creative event ideas and a proven track record of delivering successful internal engagement events. Your expertise spans a wide range of communication channels – whether it’s digital, print, in-person or virtual – and you know how to use these effectively to reinforce our internal brand and connect with diverse audiences.
It almost goes without saying that you’ll need to be a great communicator! You’ll have a knack for crafting clear and engaging messages. You’ll have experience sourcing stories that align with a company’s strategy and ambitions and help us use this to develop compelling content that resonates with our audience.
You’ll excel in project management and working with stakeholders. As a natural influencer (not the YouTube variety), you’ll foster collaboration and get everyone on board to drive our projects to success.
Character is important to us. Across the whole of Scottish Water, we look for people who are Bold, Responsible, Inspiring and Caring. (And you can expect these characteristics to make an appearance in your interview with us…)
What you’ll get:
While the work we do is important, we know it’s not the only thing that matters. That’s why we make sure you have everything you need to find a good work-life balance.
This is a full-time role (37 hours per week), Monday to Friday. You’ll get plenty of time to recharge with 38 days of holiday every year (including public holidays). And you can even buy five more if you need a little extra time. You can also take time off to volunteer in your community.
When it comes to major life events we have family-friendly policies around adoption, maternity, and parental leave. For your future, there’s our pension (the ‘know-what-you’ll-get-when-you-retire’ kind), and life assurance.
As for some nice extras? You can expect an annual company bonus. Not to mention access to SW Splash – handy rewards that can save you money on holidays, bills, and shopping.
The not-so-small print
This role will be a Grade 7. If you’re new to Scottish Water, you’ll join us on a starting salary of £41,000. Performance-driven pay progression would then allow you to move through the range to a maximum of £51,970.
You’ll ideally be based in the Central Belt or surrounding area, as this is where the team is based and many of our events are held in this area. However, we’re happy to consider applications from throughout mainland Scotland.
This is a Fixed Term opportunity for 12 months.
Job offers at Scottish Water are conditional, and will be confirmed on completion of our pre-employment screening, e.g. referencing, criminal record checks, license checks, etc. These checks are conducted on our behalf by a third party. Don’t worry - we’ll ask your permission before starting these checks.
If you’re interested in this role – or know someone else who might be - we’ll be accepting applications until midnight on Wednesday 27 November 2023. We’ll be interviewing the week beginning Monday 2 December.
A few final things worth knowing…
Research shows that some people avoid applying for jobs unless they can meet every single criteria. If you’re interested in this job, but don’t tick all the boxes, apply anyway! We hardly ever hire people who can do every part of a job from Day One. Everyone has a learning curve. So don’t rule yourself out!
Let us know if there are any changes we can make to our recruitment process to help you perform at your best. Lots of our people have disabilities or neurodiverse conditions (including some of our recruiters!). We’re also aware that some people might be experiencing temporary challenges because of life events, like menopause. We’re very used to making adjustments, so please don’t be afraid to ask.
As part of our commitment to developing a flourishing Scotland, it’s important that all our employees are Scottish taxpayers. If you join us, your home address will need to be in Scotland. If you don’t already live here, you’ll need to commit to moving here within your first three months.
Finally (finally!), candidates who haven’t submitted an application in the last 12 months will have their records removed from our recruitment database. You won’t need to do anything. Your data will be automatically deleted.
