Responsibilities:

The Sr. Business Partner for Operations Communications (ISCO) is responsible for the comprehensive planning, coordination and execution of the overall Life Science operations communications plan impacting 52 sites and 15,000 employees. This individual will work in close alignment with the entire ISCO leadership team as well as Life Science communications team with dual reporting into the EVP ISCO as well as the Head of Communications, Regions & ISCO, Life Science.

The Business Partner will lead all ISCO communications initiatives, including executive, internal and external communications events in alignment with the respective stakeholders. Working closely with senior leaders and cross-functional teams, this position provides strategic counsel and the development and implementation of comprehensive communication strategies aligned with the business objectives and corporate messaging. This individual will play a critical role in driving impactful communication initiatives, fostering transparency, sharing best practice and increasing efficiencies across ISCO and strengthening the reputation of our life science businesses.

  • Advise and Partner with ISCO senior leadership to drive operations objectives; maintaining close collaboration with the Regional communication organization as well as the LS Comms Leadership Team.
  • Accountable for the development, implementation, measurement, and ultimate success of the ISCO comms strategy and initiatives aimed at supporting the business objectives in a highly competitive market environment.
  • Accountable for executive, internal and external business communication programs contributing to Life Science employee engagement, reputation and visibility
  • Partner with internal and external communications teams to ensure ISCO content is surfaced and leveraged across all internal and external channels.
  • Evaluate and manage to continually improve the internal ISCO channels (EVA, newsletter, engagement sessions, non-desk) with a focus on significantly improving the reach of communications to non-desk employees.
  • Consult with in-house design studio to execute on critical projects for the business
  • Crisis communications partner in collaboration with Business Unit Comms, regional comms and external comms.
  • Orchestrate global network of site communicators to increase impact, ensure best practices and communications consistency across 50+ sites and 60+ distribution centers
  • Strengthen existing processes within Life Science to ensure we increase efficiencies and impact in a highly competitive market environment.

Strategic Impact:

  • Develop integrated strategies to increase employee awareness of key topics and initiatives, while driving owned and earned media activities to maintain a strong external image and reputation
  • Drive employee engagement within global Life Science Operations (ISCO) – 15,000 employees worldwide.
  • Responsible for ensuring a common understanding and commitment for the changed market environment through a clear transformation narrative and consistent implementation of key messaging through all channels and tools.
  • Protect Merck’s reputation externally in case of crisis in partnership with regions & external comms.
